's Advice

Emphasize the diverse experiences, discipline, level of responsibility and willingness to learn to potential employers. Based on your personal experiences, show your willingness to learn and implement new skills and concepts. Remind potential employers that nowhere in our society can a young person have such a high level of responsibility at such a young age.

About
Marshall

Recruited by the insurance industry following separation from active duty as a nuclear submarine officer, my experience in the nuclear Navy was sought out to work as an insurance broker and consultant to the commercial nuclear industry.

Further, Aon's military leave program enabled me to further support my country and continue my Naval career as a reservist, retiring at the Navy rank of Captain.

's Advice

Stick to what your know best…sell yourself based on your skills. Reach out to the various transition services available to translate your Military skills into corporate skills. There is a reason why corporations hire Veterans; remind them of this through your professionalism and values that were instilled in your from your branch of service.

About
Timothy

I work in Aon's Global Emergency Operations Center and play a critical role in Global Security Services mission to protect Aon's people, property and information. The GEOC serves as the incident management hub for the entire company and colleagues rely on us to keep a level head and demonstrate leadership during times of high stress and uncertainty; specifically when situations have the potential to impact colleague life/safety and business operations.

's Advice

Complete a resume that highlights the attributes you solidified while in the service leadership, determination, responsibility, pride, trustworthiness, and loyalty. There are many veterans' services available that will help you put your best foot forward so be sure take advantage; however, the best resource available is the advice of other veterans who have made the transition from military to corporate America. They are willing to help, trust me. Just as important as the resume, you should take every step necessary to be prepared for your interview; appear and speak in a professional manner it will take you a long way.
