About

Though it may sound cliché, no two days are the same (much like the military). Generally, most of my time is spent sourcing and negotiating complex agreements across a variety of business customers. Concomitantly, I could onboard a new supplier, renegotiate a master agreement with a current supplier, and lead a sourcing initiative that will eventually reduce the risk to the business or create untapped value. Though the military is quite different than the secondary mortgage market I work in now, the skills I did develop (stress management, self-discipline, integrity, commitment to excellence, to name a few) have reaped dividends when handling difficult assignments. I find my team members to be consummate professionals, willing to laugh and learn with each other, creating a comfortable space to share success.

Advice

Translate your experience into commercial terms. When I considered how to write that I commanded 200 Soldiers in Afghanistan, I knew it was not something that recruiters could easily understand so I leveraged the relevant lexicon to highlight my specific experience (for me, leading high-performing, and geographically disparate distribution centers in a major theater of operation).
