Program Manager - Portal Program
U.S. Marine Corps - Chief Warrant Officer, Data Systems Software and Communications Officer
About

As a program manager, I administer the Portal program for the development of our new SmartView product which will provide our clients the ability to create their own messages, perform order tracking, create and edit cards and more. I oversee four project managers who are responsible for administering the projects under the program. I served in the U.S. Marine Corps on active duty for 16 years and 8 years on reserve and come from a family with a long history of military experience – my father, three brothers, two sisters, sister-in-law and brother-in-law all served in various branches of the armed forces. In one of my positions in the Marine Corps I ran the Application Programming Instructor department at the Marine Corps Computer Sciences School (CSS) where I also taught project management for five and a half years.

Advice

The leadership skills I learned and taught at the CSS have been the most useful to me throughout my corporate career and I draw on this in my current role in managing both projects and people. I was also in charge of the Computer and Communications Center at the Marine Corps Forces, Atlantic. While I credit the strong leadership skills I developed to my time in the service, I had to tone down my management style somewhat as the military style can be too intense in the civilian world. In regard to what I like most about my role and in working at Fiserv, I most enjoy managing projects as well as the enterprise PMO processes that have been put into place by my team which have transformed the way we have worked. My most favorite thing though is the people I work with every day –they are all intelligent, hard-working, dedicated and fun.
