About
James

I joined the Army in 1998 and served for 20 years, retiring out of FT. Drum, NY this past May, serving as a Senior Maintenance Supervisor. Upon making the decision two years ago, that I would retire, I was faced with the challenge of who I would be in the civilian world. When I interviewed with Hertz, I was immediately drawn to some of their company values; how the leadership had to be the best and that they strive to build strong teams and provide excellent customer service. These traits aligned with what I valued and who I strived to be in the Army; I knew it was a good match for me. As a Fleet Services Manager, I am responsible for ensuring the administrative documentation from registration to inspections are conducted and updated in a timely manner that we may provide the best cars to our customers. My duties and scope of responsibility also include processing cars in and out of our pool of vehicles which are roughly 10,000 vehicles throughout Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

About

After completing my contract honorably I quickly realized that my transition would not be easy. After a year and a half searching for a career I was given the opportunity to be a PQM at Hertz. The career path is now clear and consider myself lucky to be part of the Hertz Family here at IAD.I, along with another PQM, oversee the productivity of our Vehicle Service Attendants and the cleanliness of the vehicles at IAD.

About
David

I transitioned from the Navy in 2007 and found my way into rental car with Dollar and Thrifty Rent A Car in Philadelphia in 2009. Two and a half years later we became part of the Hertz Global family. I had the privilege to lead the team in PHL and open PHL Firefly. In 2017 I again had an opportunity to grow with Hertz as I accepted the position as general manager for the BWI location in Hanover, MD.Don't let our size fool you, we may not be LAX, MCO or PHL, but we are a top 30 location with the talent and passion to run with the best of them.

Servant leadership is the key, you may know how to do (it) better than your most but that doesn't mean you have to tell them about it. You know how to “Do the Right Thing? (Leadership) and how to “Do Things Right? (Management) and, most importantly, you know the difference between the two.

About
Zach

I was a little worried about transitioning from the Army into the civilian world, but there are a lot of tools and classes that helped me along the way. There was a lot to learn when it comes to finding a job out there, but the classes helped me prepare for my life after the military. I applied for jobs before getting out, and I was able to land a good job, and get my own place once I got out. I am an Assistant Branch Manager for Hertz. I provide customer service and sales, and I rent and clean cars. I do back office paperwork, and I fill in for the manager when he or she is out of the office.

's Advice

Do not let the stress of getting out get to you. There are jobs out there, and the military provides you with the tools to get those jobs. You have the skills, so go use them.
