's Advice

I am brought to a quote that has been a constant to my driving force: “Whenever you do a thing, act as if all the world were watching - Thomas Jefferson.”"" This quote motivated me while in the Navy and continues to do so in my post military career." It has always inspired me because in my opinion, everything comes down to accountability. By nature, people tend to act differently when they think others are watching. If as individuals we can set high moral standards and make all of our decisions as though “the world were watching” we would be living in a much more benevolent, ethical and productive society. "

About
Jeffrey

As the VP of Installation Operations I am responsible and oversee the residential solar installation for NRG Home Solar." We are currently installing nearly 500 systems a month across the United States and we are projected to triple that number in the very near future. I am responsible for the training and performance of the installer crews, the operational efficiency of all warehouse operations, and the overall fiscal operations of the national installation group." The skill sets that I developed and learned in my military career that directly applied to my new position are leadership, knowing how to enhance organizational processes and structure, development and execution of training programs, and the development and sustainment of a sense of teamwork and comrade.

's Advice

The best advice I can offer to military professionals preparing to transition is to develop a solid network and start working that network early." While our skills sets are directly transferrable to the civilian sector, the recruiting, screening, and hiring process can take several months." And while websites like LinkedIn and others are helpful, I did not get a single interview from submitting my resume to an on-line application." Every interview I was able to get was through a personal contact in my professional network." I would begin to prepare your resume at a year out from separation in order to get it just right." Six months from separation, at the latest, you should be actively submitting your resume via your network to as many potential employers as possible." Be patient and do not get discouraged." Great jobs are out there but they take a bit of time to find the right one for you.
