The military training prepared me to be a better manager. I went through The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) in college, and it took me to Enlisted Basic. I served as a Sergeant in the Reserves and then I took my commission after graduation. The basic concepts of leadership I learned in the military were a great foundation, as they teach you how to think critically and make decisions in a time-sensitive crisis. In the military, they teach you how not only to lead, but also how to follow, as you can't lead without learning how to follow first. I think these are the most important experiences in the military.
I joined Sodexo because the company offers great opportunities to expand and grow and is really diverse. You can get into Facilities Management, Healthcare, Food Services and more. I came from a healthcare environment but have since expanded into Facilities Management and forward to more opportunities ahead.
I'm currently working on my doctorate in Human Organization Psychology. Sodexo knew that I had already had two years of coursework prior to taking this position. After I joined the company, I've had 100% support from the management to continue my studies. I reached out to the VP of Human Resources, and she has connected me with the Training and Development department to give me the additional exposure I need.
