I joined the U.S. Army as a photojournalist straight out of high school, as I wanted to have some life experience before heading to college. In my role, I was able to travel across the world and take part in a variety of missions - from simulated wartime training to humanitarian. While in the Army, I took college classes and then I used the G.I. Bill to complete my college degree when I left active duty. Because I enjoyed being a military photojournalist so much, I joined a public affairs unit in the California National Guard and eventually attended the California Military Academy, where I was commissioned as a military police officer. My military experience taught me the importance of teamwork, how to sanely deal with stress, and gave me the confidence in myself to know I can survive and thrive in whatever situation comes my way.
One of the things I always loved about the military was how I had opportunities every day to push my limits - both physical and mental. Symantec offers those same opportunities as our mission requires the kind of thinking that is very much in parallel with military operations. The threat landscape is our battlefield, and our researchers and analysts face and address real-time threats 24/7. I enjoy leading the consumer communications team to help educate consumers and bring awareness to our important mission.
I am a Threat Intelligence Consultant working with the United States Postal Service. My time in the United States Army was spent as an Information Security Specialist assigned to the 160th Signal Brigade. The 160th Strategic Signal Brigade is formally tasked to 'provide the United States Army Central Command and Third United States Army with enterprise communications capabilities necessary to accomplish missions throughout the Southwest Asia and the United States Central Command area of responsibility. After completion of my deployment I became the Senior System Administrator accountable for support of JLENS research and development project in conjunction with Raytheon.
I joined Symantec as a Residency consultant with the United States Navy assisting in the administration of solutions deployed within their network. This gave me the opportunity to learn about multiple solutions at once. Consulting also gives me the opportunity to expand and capitalize on my social skills. I love the interaction with people as well as the technology. Best of both worlds.
I'm a Principal Security Consultant with Symantec's Federal Consulting Team. Like many I joined the National Guard in the fall of 2001. When I completed my initial entry training in 2003 I returned home and joined the Norton Support team. Since joining Symantec permanently in 2004 I have been mobilized and deployed for both Domestic Response Missions (Hurricane Katrina, Presidential Inauguration) and Overseas Contingency Operations (Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom).
Symantec has allowed me fully pursue my civilian career as far as I was interested and supported me when my military career demanded my absence.
