About

As a medical assistant I assist the provider with every patient at each appointment. I take vitals, perform venipuncture, EKGs, as well as assist in procedures. I also train the new MAs on office procedures as well as in the field. I have been told that I have a gift with our elderly patients. I am able to calm them in a way that they’re appointment with the provider goes smoothly and effectively, and we are able to get the necessary things done. I love that this company provides health care to a lot of our veterans, being able to meet them and help them is by far the most rewarding.

Advice

We were taught how to be a team in the military and that is not the same in the civilian world. You will find it hard that others don’t have the same standards or way of thinking. This can be discouraging and frustrating at times. You have to be patient! When you begin to lead by example and show them what your training has taught you, you will not only better yourself but better them as well. Do not get discouraged, you will come across people that can really benefit from your knowledge and experience. Also, since there a lot of patients that are veterans, you will have a special bond with them that a civilian will not have, embrace it!
