Our DePuy Synthes site in Raynham, MA is looking for Co-Ops for the
Codman specializes in neurological treatments (brain surgery). We produce aneurysm treatment coils and
deployment devices, drug impregnated catheters, catheters with pressure sensors
for treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus, surgical sponges to protect
tissue during surgery, etc. We have a variety of processes, ranging from
textile manufacturing to full blown automation for assembly.
The Codman Co-op will have a wide variety of responsibilities:
- Assist with process improvements and mechanical
design enhancements for our automation
- Component design using SOLIDWORKS
- Preparation of manufacturing documents and
- Assist with 6 sigma Black Belt and LEAN projects
- Mechanical Engineers and Industrial Engineers
preferred. BioEngineering, Chemical Engineering and Electrical Engineering
majors will also be considered.
The Manufacturing Engineer Co-op will:
- Play a key role in developing and implementing processes for
Orthopedics cleaning and packaging operations.
- Participate on cross-functional teams concentrating on the improvement
of existing processes as well as the development of new processes in support of
- This will include providing manufacturing Engineering support to
Orthopedics Operations; ensuring compliance with all FDA, ISO, quality, safety,
and environmental regulations; participate in Six Sigma and Lean process and
product improvement projects; assisting with projects to in-load or transfer
products by reviewing designs for manufacturability, defining tooling
requirements, and developing manufacturing processes with project team members;
coordinating development and validation activities for manufacturing
- Mechanical Engineers and Industrial Engineers preferred.
BioEngineering, Chemical Engineering and Electrical Engineering majors will
also be considered.
The GDC Co-Op will work closely with
representatives from marketing, R&D, purchasing, and quality engineering,
as well as our external strategic suppliers.
The GDC Co-Op will be responsible for leading the manufacturing
development on his/her assigned instruments, including working with supplier
quality and purchasing on the qualification and delivery of these
Major responsibilities include:
- Brainstorm instrument design concepts with GDC teammates and internal
- Perform design reviews and provide design for manufacturability and
instrument cost feedback to NPD teams.
- Work with in-house GDC toolmakers as well as vendors to develop
prototypes for cadaver sessions and instruments for surgical evaluations.
- Participate in internal cadaver sessions as needed.
- Research current and emerging technologies to identify potential lower
cost manufacturing processes, utilizing six sigma and lean methodologies and
knowledge where applicable.
- Identify and implement methods to effectively streamline and optimize
our NPD process.
- Actively participant in pre-production and regular meetings that
purchasing holds with vendors, visiting suppliers’ facilities as needed.
- Work closely with supplier quality and R&D on identifying and
qualifying the vendors on critical to function and quality dimensions as well
as performing process capability, COV, and GR&R studies.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies in regards to all
safety, QSR and environmental issues.
Mitek specializes in the area of Sports Medicine
through a variety of arthroscopic repairs.
This Co-Op will be working in a cross-functional environment
(QA/MFG/RD/MKT) supporting several of our many projects.
Opportunities exist to work on electro-mechanical
systems (arthroscopic pumps, radio frequency, and visualization systems) and
their respective disposables (such as tube sets, powered blades and burrs,
powered hand pieces, etc.). The
individual will also have a chance to work with surgeons in a cadaveric setting
assessing device performance and obtaining surgeon feedback.
This individual’s major responsibilities
will be as follows (but not limited to):
- Drive design control
activities for new product development efforts.
- Conduct Process
Verification and Validation activities with our internal manufacturing
team as well as our external suppliers.
- Support voice of the
customer sessions with key surgeon customers by assessing device
performance in a cadaveric lab setting.
- Lead process/design failure
mode effects and analysis and mitigation of keys risks identified.
- Develop inspection
methodology and acceptance criteria for inspection sample plans.
- Provide leadership in all areas
of the Quality System, including, but not limited to Corrective &
Preventive Actions, Nonconforming Materials, Risk Management, etc.
Co-Op will work on providing manufacturing
engineering support to Orthopedics.
- Participate on
cross-functional teams concentrating on the development of new processes
in support of product launches.
- Process improvement
activities which can include equipment upgrades or new equipment
- Will learn how to use
mini-tab to statistically study dimensional or process outcomes to allow
new improvement projects to proceed.
- Become team members
supporting large capital improvement projects.
- Work on lean manufacturing
projects to help eliminate wastes in the process.
- Help analyze scrap for
trends to set up a queue for additional improvement projects.
- Take on Kaizen ideas
implementation for the ideas submitted by employees for improvements.
- Assisting the Engineer
with running trials, for improvements on existing products to improve
yields and reduce costs.
- Assist Shell Room engineer
doing testing and analysis of production slurries to keep production
processes in control.
As a Co-op in Operations/Engineering you
will be working under the direction of Operational Excellence team, utilizing
World Class tools & concepts to drive new process development and process
optimization activities in the Raynham, MA facility. The individual will
be directly involved in projects that lead to improved product quality, cost
reduction and employee safety. In this position
- Assist manufacturing teams with
process improvement activities and new process / product introductions.
- Process mapping and
flowcharting existing and proposed processes
- Assist supervision/ engineers
with various Lean Black Belt / Process Excellence initiatives through the
application of statistical tools.
- Active member of continuous improvement
and cost reduction projects
- Supporting capacity analysis on
production processes to optimize or introduce new equipment
A qualified candidate should meet the following
- Candidates must be legally
authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment
visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B status)
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 Cumulative
is strongly preferred
- Candidate must be actively
enrolled pursuing either a Bachelors or Master’s degree ( but not necessarily
- Candidate must have reliable
transportation to and from work on a daily basis for the duration of the co-op.
- Candidate must be able to work
full time (40 hours per week) during the duration of the co-op position.
