This position is 40 hours/week, days worked will be Monday-Thursday and Saturdays. Saturdays can be worked remotely from home (laptop provided) and only 6 hours minimum are required. In addition, this position offers an opportunity to return and work during school breaks and potentially a few hours a week remotely during the school year if we find the intern is successful in the role. Unlike other intern experiences, you will have the opportunity experience work a full time claim adjuster would. You will experience our full training in the University of Farmers. This includes policy interpretation, estimating, and hands on training. During this internship you will get the full experience of working at Farmers Insurance as specialty claims adjuster.


Based in Caledonia, MI, this unique paid internship provides real world work experience plus the opportunity to work with Farmers leadership and learn first-hand how Farmers supports our customers and remains competitive in the insurance industry. As a part of the Farmers Internship, you will not only be working within the Business, you will also have the opportunity to work together with other interns on an exciting project, which you will present to Farmers leadership prior to the conclusion of the internship program. Throughout the internship and working directly with members of the Farmers Leadership team, you will get experience in and involved with the following:

• Identifying areas of improvement and making recommendations for its implementation.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to juggle competing priorities as well as make an impact within a team environment. Required job duties are essentially sedentary in nature, consisting of occasion walking, standing, lifting and/or carrying ten pounds maximum, seeing, speaking, and hearing.


Investigates, confirms coverage, determines liability, establishes damages, reports status and negotiates the settlement of assigned cases (has authority to make payment of assigned claims within prescribed limits). Adjusts all types of claims. Inspects damaged property and vehicles, and determines claims related damage. Estimates the cost of repair or replacement of damaged or stolen property and vehicles. Determines and reports on subrogation potential. Initiates the sale of salvage vehicles, personal property, and miscellaneous salvage items. Reports theft, fraud, and arson losses as required to state and industry agencies. Performs most duties on an individual basis, and work has a direct bearing on Management results. Represents the Company from a public relations standpoint and must conduct oneself as a member of Management at all times. Personal contacts are a major part of activity and include policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, repair facilities, contractors, police and fire departments, state and county fraud and arson personnel, special investigators, attorneys, expert witnesses, members of the medical profession and all other persons incident to the investigation and processing of claims. Promotes safety at all times and complies with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in relevant company published manuals. Performs other duties as assigned.
