This position is a key member of the Controller Operations team reporting to the AVP of Consolidated Reporting & Analysis. This role will manage a team of accountants responsible for not just getting the numbers right, but uncovering the story behind the numbers. (S)he should have the ability to think critically, identify and research issues, and use appropriate level of judgement to propose value added solutions to management. The manager is expected to be well versed in insurance/reinsurance and product related business that enhances relative contribution to the organization through transference of knowledge to team members. (S)he should possess professional accountability for quality of team’s work product. This role also is expected to coach and develop staff to perform tasks independently with limited supervision and high degree of accountability; and develop relationships with counterparts across the enterprise to maintain communication and optimize efficiency in the reporting process.


  • Oversees finance activities for the Annuity, Life, & Run-off segments.
  • Manages activities to prepare financial reports to comply with outside regulatory and rating agencies and to provide management with timely information.
  • Ensures established close deadlines are met while maintaining a controlled environment.
  • Consult with business partners as new products are developed by working with the Administrative System, Actuarial and Technical Accounting teams to develop accounting rules and system requirements.  Oversee product accounting rules testing.
  • Explore opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions.
  • Provide support for STAT preparation of Blue Books and audited financials.
  • Supports internal and external audits and SOX team as required.
  • Perform other general accounting duties as needed.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and adhocs as required
  • Train and develop Consultants and staff.


  • B.A./B.S. in Accounting/Finance or equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience in Accounting
  • CPA, MBA, or CMA highly desired
  • Proficient in US GAAP
  • Proficient in insurance and reinsurance accounting and US STAT
  • Knowledge of People Soft and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) a plus
  • Prior experience with FAS 97, FAS 60, and FAS 133 accounting a plus.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of capital markets including derivatives
  • Prior supervisory experience Ability to manage team members.
  • Ability to work with associates at all levels, including senior management.
  • Ability to produce results and carry out initiatives independently
  • Effective time management and prioritization
  • Ability to work within tight time constraints and multiple priorities
