Amgen is searching for an Accounting Manager to join our Global Accounting team. This role will report to our Director in Global Accounting supporting our U.S. Sales and R&D accounting areas. The primary focus of this role will be in the U.S. Sales accounting area with a dotted line report to U.S. Sales Manager that oversees all U.S. sales accounting activities. A smaller, but still important role will be assisting in various accounting deliverables in the R&D and restructuring accounting areas. This position will be based on the main corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA.
The Accounting Manager will manage accounting activities related to our U.S. Commercial Sales area and be a strong business partner with members of Global Commercial Operations (GCO) FP&A, and GCO business partners including Trade Pricing and Contracts Management and Trade Operations.
The U.S. Sales Accounting Manager will be responsible for performing the following responsibilities:
Manage and be a point of contact for U.S. sales monthly accounting processes including coordination of close timelines and deliverables including journal entry completion and/or review, account reconciliations review, internal financial reporting deliverables and 10Q/K disclosure and external audit deliverables.
Manage off-shore third party accounting team responsible for completing monthly accounting journal entry and reporting deliverables and ensure financial controls and quality standards are met. This includes review of journal entries, account reconciliations and close analysis completed by the off-shore team.
Work cross-functionally with GCO FP&A and GCO business partners as they complete the quarterly U.S. Latest Estimate Discount Rate (LEDR). The LEDR provides estimates for the sales incentive discount rates used for the U.S. sales accruals. This will include attending various LEDR discussions with teams on assumptions and inputs and being able to apply and communicate accounting guidance as part of the accounting review.
Prepare detailed analytics on quarterly sales incentive and returns and be able to communicate results effectively to dotted line Manager, Director and to stakeholders.
Support accounting close deliverables for GCO Operating Expenses and partner with GCO OpEx FP&A team on quarterly close processes.
Prepare, review and/or approve financial schedules such as close reporting deliverables, footnote disclosures, and providing support for other ad hoc schedules, as needed.
Role will also support various deliverables in the R&D Accounting and Restructuring areas including specific accounting close and other non-close support deliverables.
Work on special projects as needed. This includes continually looking for efficiencies and process improvements to work more efficiently meanwhile still ensuring controls and compliance are bedrock.
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree
Master's degree and 3 years of Finance or Accounting experience
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Finance or Accounting experience
Associate's degree and 10 years of Finance or Accounting experience
Preferred Qualifications
CPA and/or MBA
5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience including corporate level public company experience
Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
Ability to meet deliverables in a fast paced and high exposure area
Ability to work cross-functionally and present ideas and results in an organized and effective way
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to influence cross-functionally and at different levels on decisions that impact U.S. Sales Accounting
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple deliverables
Ability to demonstrate judgment and make appropriate recommendations
Proven to be a Change Agent by driving results and implementing improvements effectively to support a rapidly changing environment
Experience managing outsource partner relationship
Understanding and application of accounting principles in U.S. GAAP related to U.S. Sales
Detail orientated and strong business analytical skills
Advance computer skills in excel and SAP
Pharmaceutical industry experience
