This position will be a key member of the Financial Strategies team within MetLife Holdings. 


MetLife Holdings is one of five U.S. Business Segments and consists of operations relating to products and businesses no longer actively marketed by the Company.  This segment includes businesses formerly in the Retail segment, consisting of variable life, universal life, term life, whole life, index-linked annuities, fixed & variable annuities, and long term care businesses, as well as the reinsurance treaty relating to the former Japan joint venture.  The MetLife Holdings business segment is focused on driving the delivery of cost-effective customer service to inforce retail customers while optimizing the economic value of the Legacy Retail block to MetLife.  This organization primarily leverages its product and financial expertise through functional partners to accomplish these objectives.



The Financial Strategies team is responsible for performing the actuarial analysis needed to assess and implement optimization initiatives designed to reduce risk and volatility, improve free cash flow, and reduce capital of the block of retail life and annuity products.

  • Role is largely project-based and focused on optimization initiatives (~75% of time)
  • Model and communicate thorough and thoughtful pricing and analysis on financial, behavioral, contractual, and operational optimization initiatives for life and annuity products
  • Identify and develop strategic optimization areas and activities for products and processes
  • Analysis will be done on multiple reporting bases, including Statutory, GAAP, Economic, and Embedded Value and cover multiple facets of profitability, capital, and risk.
  • Degree and type of analysis will vary depending on the specific initiative and include both creation of models from the ground-up as well as adaption and enhancement of existing models across multiple platforms
  • Role will regularly interface and collaborate with both life and annuity actuarial partners across multiple organizations including Actuarial Resources, ALM, CFO, Investments, and Risk Management.
  • Remaining ~25% of the role is focused on successfully delivering on policyholder obligations.  These obligations include legal support, embedded value support, annuity rate-setting, annuity FMV and APV calculations, and actuarial and calculation support for complex exceptions or requests. 


  • 6-10 years of actuarial experience and steady progression towards or achievement of Society of Actuaries designation
  • Strong actuarial computing and modeling skills including knowledge of VBA or similar programming languages
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to both work independently and in a team environment
  • Prior experience with life insurance products and/or APL software a plus
