Cummins is looking for an extraordinary Advance Electrical Technician in Nashville, TN.   • Technical specialist and primary customer support contact to diagnose and execute complex repairs to generators and components at the customer's site, including start-ups, control upgrades, switch gears.
  • Establishes and continually develops productive customer relations and ensures prompt and efficient attention to customer needs.
  • Applies the use of specialized tools and follows documented procedures and policies to diagnose and complete complex repairs at customer site.
  • Performs preventative maintenance activities as per documented schedules and standards on power generation products in the field.
  • Escalates unresolved issues to product specialists / Supervisor.
  • Coaches and develops technicians and/or apprentices and transfers knowledge and experience to others; may provide work direction; may review of repair plans, parts lists, etc.
  • Completes required documentation, such as service worksheets, timesheets, warranty claims, quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens.
  • Completes training in line with skill and business requirements.
  • Maintains service vehicle and tools for cleanliness and proper operation.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant Health Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to site management and to their supervisor.


  • Advanced Power Generation diagnose, troubleshooting and repair skills are a must.
  • Able to utilize various software platforms including but not limited to MS Office, BMS, CPG Power Suite, Gensize, Cummins Order Status, Concept, Advantech, and Outlook to manage project logistics and schedules.
  • Maintains technical and product knowledge proficiency with respect to market requirements.
  • Communicates professionally, accurately and concisely using appropriate communications resources including telephone, e-mail, net meeting, etc.
  • Able to be trusted to handle extremely confidential and sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of general and electrical contracting industries.
  • Able to interpret technical documents, specification, and drawings.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code.

A person hired as a Skill Level A Technician would have Level II Technician plus:
  • Ability to train Service Personnel to develop their diagnostic skills.
  • Able to identify opportunities for work process improvements and recommend appropriate action.
  • Able to develop and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Ability to prepare reports providing feedback on service interventions.
  • Able to understand and follow the Technical Support Request (TSR) process.

A person hired as a Skill Level B Technician would have Skill Level A plus:
  • Ability to identify and resolve engine system failures relating to and impacted by component failure.
  • Ability to guide / coach other service technicians (including customer and/or dealer technicians) through complex service interventions and diagnostic issues
  • Can resolve complex technical problems.
  • Ability to identify and up sell further service and repair opportunities.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
  • Apprentice Certified Power Generation/ Electrical Technician (Preferred
  • Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution
  • Current relevant electrical certification
  • Locally valid driving permit

  • Ten years of experience with Switchgear, Controls, Networks, and Emergency Power Systems Start-Ups, preferred.
  • Significant field service work experience.
  • Experience in electro/mechanical field service.
  • Expert level knowledge of and/or experience with power generation products
  • High Voltage / Low Voltage experience.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians, preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Standing 7.5 hours per day.
  • Pushing/Pulling 4.0 hours per day.
  • Sitting 1.5 hours per day.
  • Lifting 1.5 hours per day.
  • Lifting up to a maximum of 80 pounds.
  • Bending 3.0 hours per day.
  • Driving 1.5 hours per day.
