We are looking for an API Architect to join the Digital Architecture Group in Verizon. The Digital Architecture is responsible for the reference architecture and reference implementation needed to sustain business for today and tomorrow. It defines and evolves a go-forward architecture for Verizon internet facing applications (both Wireless and Fios), software development standards, security standards and process improvement efforts. Digital Architecture partners with Business and IT teams running critical business applications (with focus on those that involve new and innovative technologies).Finally Digital Architecture introduces new and innovative and disruptive ideas to help generate more revenue to Verizon.

  • Responsible for overall execution architecture & design of the API approach within Digital platforms group.
  • Partner with lead architect accountable for overall design.
  • Research the exiting application and recommend granularity of API’s to ensure they meet the business needs but are not coupled to channels.
  • Ensure focus on choreography over orchestration.
  • Assist with the migration to microservices architecture.
  • Create a reference implementation that demonstrates how all these components interact and work together.
  • Assist with prioritization and able to play the role of a product owner for APIs.
  • Drive solution development through requirements gathering, analysis, discovery, business plan creation, and solution level of effort estimation and guiding teams and business partners alight to ensure alignment.
  • Articulate benefits of program and the RIO.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or six or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with API Design and Development on the Cloud as well as on premise environments.
  • Experience with API design techniques and strategies for API evolution.
  • Experience with API security& API governance and how it applies in practice.
  • Experience with API Gateway Design Patterns

Even better if you have:

  • Domain modeling and an understanding of domain driven design.
  • RESTful principles.
  • API platforms such as Apigee, IBM API Connect, or other similar products.
  • Microservice topologies and Distributed Systems.
  • Software Development Background.
  • Strong facilitation skills to ensure alignment to architectural vision.
  • Ability to partner and communicate with various development teams to understand the key capabilities of a system to expose as APIs.
  • Experience with the Apigee API Gateway and the Apigee common policies.
  • Experience with AWS and AWS API Gateway.
  • Experience with Open Source Frameworks: Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Netflix OSS.
  • Experience with Java.
  • Knowledge of OAuth and OpenID Connect.
  • Knowledge of Web Application Security.
