What you’ll be doing...

As an Application Resiliency Architect - DB2 you will use knowledge of DB2, from a systems and application perspective. You will provide technical leadership and guidance to the to support teams and collaborate to ensure the applications that utilize DB2 are highly available, have sound backup/recovery/DR strategies, are designed optimally, the data is safeguarded, and efficiently use resources such as CPU, I/O services, memory and cache.

By industry standards, the relational databases are very large and very busy. There are approximately 100 environments, from development through production, to maintain and ensure a high level of transaction/batch performance and availability. There is a lot of daily and hourly automation in-place which must also be maintained and improved upon.

  • Lead multiple medium to large-scale projects and provides technical guidance to staff members and peers.
  • Provide technical leadership to project managers, database administrators, technicians, and management throughout the design, planning, development, and implementation phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC and ensuring the architecture, design, backup and recovery, and data security best practices are utilized.
  • Work with production support and development to resolve complex and/or customer online issues.
  • Protect Verizon's assets by collaborating with the Compliance, Auditing, and Data Security teams. Ensure all Verizon sensitive data stored within DB2 databases is protected by staying ahead of the data security curve. Design and implement defense-in-depth data security solutions in advance of when they become necessary through awareness of best practices and potential future threats and requirements. Solutions may include encryption, tokenization, data obfuscation, or other best practices.
  • Participate in all event bridges and lead the technical trouble shooting and implementation of the solution. Lead the post-mortem technical meeting with the technical teams and the partner vendors.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with DB2, DDF, native stored procedures specifically in the areas of application resiliency and recovery.
  • Experience with zOS, Mainframe, CICS, and COBOL.
  • Experience with SQL.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Familiarity with mainframe tools to monitor and measure DB2 effectiveness RMF, CMF, Strobe, AppTune, etc
  • Experience with project management tools and techniques to ensure successful project initiation through completion.
