Applications Engineer

Location: Granville, Ohio - United States

The Applications Engineer supports area sales managers by providing new opportunities through continuous customer discovery and developing system solutions that meet both articulated and unarticulated customer needs. The position in dedicated to new product introductions, product modifications, VAVE, continuous improvement, testing, and identifying customer fitness for use.

Reports to: OEM Technical Leader

1. Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities.
• Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader
2. Knowing Our Customers (Driving Business Growth through deep customer knowledge and market understanding)
a. Continuously builds intimate insight and knowledge of the market, customers, and the customer's customer
b. Understands what is necessary for the customer to be successful, and, the differential value created by current and future products, programs and processes deliver to the customer
c. Identifies strategic opportunities at the customer that fit business growth strategy
d. The nuances of this understanding will require equivalent comfort discussing thermal, acoustical, and material science physics with customer
• 10 -20 customer discussions within the first 6 months of employment
3. Executing Strategy
a. Conduct effective field test and learn initiatives for new products and applications
b. Present technologies to customers or potential customers
c. Prepares value-based proposals, detailing the costs and benefits of new product applications and services
d. Coordinates, conducts, and supervises technology implementation and testing activities
e. Performs statistical analysis of customer process data and application results
f. Identify strategic partners to drive transformational material innovation in markets served
g. Is part of teams that lead in the extraction, development, processing, and testing of the materials used to create a diversity of products
h. Develops IP protected system solutions that exceed customer FFU's for thermal, acoustical, and structural applications
• Delivery of one new product / system solution / application within first 10 months of employment

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 3-7 years of experience in application development and project engineering are required
  • Durable and non-durable goods packaging design and application development
  • Ability to interface well with suppliers and customers
  • Material science expertise and experience
  • Project management skills
  • Manufacturing Equipment and tooling design experience (specification and knowledge, not necessarily design)
  • Excellent communication and technical translation skills are imperative
  • The candidate must be able to professionally communicate a technical message at the appropriate level to various industry constituents
  • Candidate must be capable of learning new technical applications that solve a variety of problems
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute strategic directions
  • Makes decisions and commits to a course of action with appropriate information and recognizes uncertainty of success; weighs and manages risk in decision making; able to make decisions detrimental to a few but helpful to many
