OBJECTIVES:
The Associate Director position is a research leader role with proven organizational & management skill. A nimble team of Immunologists reporting to this leader will be responsible for advancing internal and collaborative programs that leverage deep insights into cellular and pathway mechanisms to advance programs from concept to clinical proof-of-mechanism, in close partnership with other functions, including the GI DDU / TAU and Translational Medicine and Early Research (TREC) teams
ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Directs GI-Immunology research programs involving small molecule, biologics, and novel modalities
  • Manages a nimble team of Immunology researchers who collaborate closely with other teams in the Immunology and GI Units to advance small molecule and biologics programs, through a deep understanding of cellular and pathway mechanisms, according to clear timelines and go/no-go decision points
  • Provides strategic guidance and project leadership for Immunology programs as appropriate, including mentoring PTLs
  • Contributes, may play a vital role, to translational research activities, including biomarker discovery and validation, in partnership with the Translational Research & Early Clinical (TREC) team and expert external groups
  • Establishes rapport & collaborates with scientific leaders, KOLs, academic partners, CROs and biotech companies and is seen as an international subject matter expert in Immunology research and therapeutics
  • Keeps up with the up-to-date scientific advancement (e.g. competitive landscape, new technologies, and emerging opportunities)
  • Supports biomarker discovery and validation for clinical translation of Immunology programs
  • Spends ~ 25% of the time in the laboratory to maintain a world-class scientific team
  • Allocates ~20% of the time to helping to identify, advance, and ensure the success of innovative external partnerships for GI-Immunology, in close collaboration with CEI and the GI DDU/TAU


Qualifications EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology (or comparable), 8+ years or relevant experience, BS/BA with 10+ years of relevant experience and 5 years supervisory experience
  • Postdoctoral work carried out in world-renowned Immunology lab
  • Publication record in top scientific journals (International reputation)
  • Track record of contributing to progression of immunology programs ranging from target discovery to clinical proof-of-concept
  • Well-versed in field of GI-Immunology, with good knowledge of competitive environment
  • Experience in managing teams in a matrix environment
  • Experience in leveraging external resources (vendors / CROs) and in building and supporting partnerships with academic institutions and/or companies
  • Experience authoring and maintaining IACUC protocols
