At the Merck's campus in Elkton, Virginia, we currently have an Associate Technical Specialist position available. The manufacturing facility is located in the Shenandoah Valley along the Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge Mountains a short distance from the University of Virginia and James Madison University.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their enthusiasm and technical skills as a member of a multidisciplinary team supporting the operation of pharmaceutical product manufacturing facilities.

The Bulk Sterile area Technical Operations group is seeking an individual to partner with Manufacturing and Quality groups in the Bulk Sterile area to provide exceptional technical support, play a key role increasing stability, improve the processes, and meet and surpass metrics/objectives of the area.

Assignment duties will include:
•Providing technical support for the aseptic manufacturing process, and other in-line manufacturing processes as required in the form of analysis, troubleshooting, problem solving, report writing.
•Supporting change control implementation for the factory
•Learning new processes and procedures
•Performing shift work as needed
•Conducting technical investigations and analyses
•Recommending and implementing corrective and preventative actions, and helping lead reduction of atypical events for the area
•Writing and reviewing procedures for operation of equipment and processes
•Contributing to process and equipment safety reviews


Qualifications:
Education Minimum Requirement:

Bachelors Degree, preferably in engineering and science

Required Experience and Skills:

- At least one year of previous manufacturing experience
- Strong problem solving skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving, with a bias towards going to see problems for oneself in the field.
- Excellent technical, organizational, interpersonal, collaborative, and verbal/written communication skills.
- The ability to examine an issue from diverse perspectives (safety, compliance, maintenance, automation, equipment, process, and people) in order to best understand and resolve it.
- Enthusiasm, confidence, and initiative-taking ability needed for continuous learning and its applications.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

•Experience working in a cGMP environment
•Biologics, vaccine or sterile processing experience
•Experience executing change controls
•Experience participating in a process simulation or sterile challenge
•Project management
•Leadership roles
