Role Summary/Purpose

The AWS IaaS Software Engineer in GE Aviation is transforming the way IT works every day. The Engineer is part of the IaaS ecosystem that supports Operating System business processes, core components, and software based wiring designed to drive IT functionality. The AWS IaaS Engineer role will develop hands-on within the AWS space and become responsible for Chef (data bags / encryption, VPN environments, Jenkins, repositories) to deliver environments for applications/environments.

Essential Responsibilities

This role follows an individual work plan, meets day-to-day short-term objectives, and has the ability to resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning. The responsibilities of this role include :

Write and modify Chef cookbooks to support infrastructure in the Cloud

Architect cloud based solutions in the Amazon Web Services Cloud based on business requirements

Utilize git to organize and collaborate code that others will use

Become familiar with Jenkins to deploy code for the Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment pipeline

Troubleshoot outages and points of failure

Serve as the technical expert on assigned area's applications, including code, interfaces, and data flows

Establish the priority of work and assignment of personnel to meet objectives

Serve as a primary interface with internal and external contributing organization relative to technical requirements, directions and problem resolution

Collaborate with management in developing technical directions in Digital Thread initiative, setting objectives, and setting realistic and challenging goals

Executes routine analyses using vested methods and technologies and / or contributes to technological developments in teams under supervision

Works together with people from the business unit and within a team setting and / or under guidance


Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum 4 years of experience in Information Technology)

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

At least 2 years of experience as a software developer using J2EE and associated technologies

Strong oral and written communication skills

Hands on experience in Ruby; AWS and Chef products and services

Knowledge of using Design Patterns

Basic systems analysis techniques, testing, debugging, documentation standards, file design,storage, and interfacing

Proven analytical and problem solving skills

Demonstrated initiative to stay abreast of technology advancements

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Knowledge of Predix platform

Prior experience as employee, supplier business partner of GE Aviation or GE
