In just over ten years, Capital One has built the ninth largest domestic Commercial Bank in the U.S, accounting for approximately 25% of the company’s overall balance sheet. Commercial has been one of the fastest growing segments of the company over the last five years – and remains a key priority for Capital One’s overall growth strategy. Capital One’s Commercial Banking group manages a $65 billion loan portfolio for more than 6,100 clients, delivering over $2B in revenue. The Commercial Bank offers a complete spectrum of products, including lending, depository services, treasury management, capital markets, and private banking and wealth management.

The Commercial segment is led by Michael Slocum, and is primarily organized around four lines of business: Commercial Real Estate, Middle Market Banking, and Healthcare Finance, and Financial Institutions Group:

 Commercial Real Estate represents approximately 40% of the portfolio, and is divided among geographic market teams (largely focused on the Northeast, the Mid Atlantic, and the Southeast), a multifamily specialty, a REIT specialty, a REIF specialty, and an agency warehouse specialty.
 Middle Market Banking targets clients with revenues between $10MM and $2B and is organized across three local markets: the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Southeast. The Middle Market team also manages several national industry specialties such as: Dealer Services, Energy, Gaming, Maritime, and Government Banking. Our Private Banking and Wealth Management group is also housed within Middle Market.
 Our Healthcare Finance team is the second largest middle market lender to healthcare companies in the US, covering over 45 specific subsections across the country.
 The Financial Institutions Group is a national business that offers financing to a variety of consumer and commercial non-bank lenders.

Our Role:

Relationship-driven Commercial Banking meets Capital One information based strategy. As a Business Director in our Marketing & Analysis team your responsibilities will include:

 Manage a team of associates responsible for creating and measuring performance against strategic objectives and industry dynamics; monitor portfolio risk trends and partner with our Middle Market Business to formulate the step forward.
 Lead Middle Market Banking Marketing & Analytics Portfolio:
o Develop and enhance a set of metrics to monitor portfolio drivers and forward leaning profitability and risk indicators and review trends
o Assess new product or program opportunities, review strategic fit, economics and risks, establish guardrails around target segment and risk profile partnering with the Line of Business
o Provide input on the creation of C suite and Board of Director presentations to report on Commercial Bank progress or recommend major new investments
o Provide business intent for improvements to Commercial data infrastructure that supports metrics, reporting or analysis agenda

Key business partners include:
 Head of our Middle Market Business
 Head of Middle Market Underwriting
 Middle Market Banking Market Managers
 Commercial Credit Risk Management

Critical to his/her success will be the ability to connect and integrate objectives, navigate difficult conversations, prioritize between competing demands, and earn the confidence and trust of key internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have:

 Ability to manage up, across, and down in a large organization and win support for change recommendations

 Ability to support and lead new business initiatives from ideation through implementation

 Strong written and verbal communication skills

 Genuine intellectual curiosity and passion for achieving business results
 Solid business judgment and quantitativeanalytical/statisticalskills
 Comfort establishing relationships with individuals in a wide range of job families

 Ability to establish and maintain high level of credibility with all levels of internal and external customers

 Demonstrated people management skills

Basic Qualifications:

 Bachelor’s Degree in any quantitative field (Business, Computer Science, Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Science, or Engineering) or military experience
 At least 10 years of experience in Financial industry, Consulting or other business analysis roles

Preferred Qualifications:

 Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree

 1+ years experience in Commercial Banking, prior consulting or analytical experience is a plus
