The Business Loan Center (BLC) Business Lending Underwriter is responsible for underwriting requests that require financial analysis using a thorough knowledge of Comerica's Credit Policy, guidelines and procedures.

Reporting Information/Location

This BLC Business Lending Underwriter position is located at 3551 Hamlin Road, Auburn Hills, MI and reports to the BLC Manager. This position has no direct reports however will have lending authority.


* Handle multiple borrowers from low and high-risk industries with the authority to approve requests for new and existing customers. Analyzes various industries and has a thorough knowledge of the risks associated with those industries. Assesses the risks inherent in each client industry and suggests appropriate financing vehicles. * Utilize standard underwriting processes and procedures to achieve efficiencies. Accurately reviews financial statements and tax returns submitted by applicants and evaluate their ability to repay. * Evaluate loan requests that requires financial analysis using a thorough knowledge of Comerica Credit Policy, guidelines and procedures. Ability to approve policy exception and guideline variances. Utilizes exception authority to approve loans for individuals who have bankruptcies or foreclosures on their credit report and authority to waive financial statement requirements. * Evaluate and make decisions on small business/private banking lending products within a stated limit based on credit policy. Seeks alternative means of financing or counter offers for all borrowers when it is determined original request cannot be granted. * Ensure that credit decisions meet established guidelines and federal/ state regulations. * A ssigned more complex loans (i.e. multiple borrowers versus single borrower), complexity of collateral (cash, stocks & bonds, building, inventory, accounts receivable, real estate, equipment, etc.) Risk of business industry (gas station, party store, clothing store, etc.).

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited university * Successful completion of a formal commercial credit training program * 6 years of experience underwriting complex consumer, small business or commercial lending requests
