Adecco Direct Hire is currently recruiting on behalf of its client for the job of Buyer for its facility in Spartanburg, SC. In this role, you will be responsible for purchasing materials, supplies and services needed. You will analyze past buying trends, sales records, price, and quality of merchandise to determine value and yield. Purchase raw or semi-finished materials for manufacturing. Select, order, and authorize payment for merchandise according to contractual agreements. Based on performance, this position may lead to the role of Purchasing Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews requisitions, purchase orders, and vouchers for accuracy and conformance with established policies and procedures. Generate and implement ideas to negotiate current cost, avoid cost and improve supply chain optimization. Contribute to total manufacturing cost (TMC) on all new products. Manage relationship with external strategic suppliers by building strong value-added relationships with suppliers. Meets with vendors seeking to establish relationships with the firm. Reviews materials presented and forwards the information to the appropriate purchasing agent along with recommendation as whether the vendor deserves further consideration. Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history. Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other data and information to determine reasonable prices. Identify and determine the demand of supplies to ensure the upkeep of the plant in addition to the needs of production. Ability to negotiate with suppliers (internal and external) services and material purchase agreements. Expedites purchase orders. Notifies departments of the expected delivery date and follows up on back orders. Verify invoices, receiving of documents and inventory to submit to accounting. Maintains accurate vendor/department files EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED High School degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution. Associate's degree or equivalent experience in purchasing with minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience in manufacturing buying. Experience in ISO 9001 is a must. Experience with ISO/TS16949, ISO14001 / OHSAS 18001 will be considered as an asset. Excellent written and oral communications, inter-personal skills and an ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines. Should have good leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate team members. Must be a self-starter and self-motivated with the ability to manage stress. Strong leadership skills.
