POSITION SUMMARY:

 

TIAA’s Production Services & Architecture (PS&A) team is responsible for all architecture, engineering and infrastructure operations of our core technology assets as part of a streamlined, strategic approach that ensures low cost, high quality delivery from initial architectural decisions through engineering to long-term operational support.  The PS&A team collaborates closely with our business-aligned partners in technology and with key stakeholders across the enterprise.
 
 
As an Engineer for capacity management you will manage the company’s capacity plans and technology roadmaps in addition to providing third level support for core hardware, software, data and infrastructure components related to the efficient use of technology resources. Your role will coordinate and manage the technology roadmaps with solution and enterprise architecture to ensure there is a strong alignment to our enterprise wide technology architecture. Focus areas will include server, network, database, storage, and middleware. Platform focus areas include ESX infrastructure components, public cloud, PaaS solutions and middleware hosting.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
 

  • Manage and maintain the virtual and physical infrastructure capacity of TIAA
  • Plan for and maintain the capacity of cloud and virtual infrastructure
  • Evaluate hardware purchasing decisions
  • Work with lines of business and application development teams to understand present and future business volumes and capacity requirements
  • Use proprietary and vendor tools to manage VMWare capacity
  • Create, maintain and review Capacity Plans with lines of business for key applications
  • Provide 3rd level analysis of critical infrastructure performance issues
  • Identify areas for optimization and formulate remediation plans 


QUALIFICATIONS:


Required Experience
 
  • Three or more years of engineering and/or systems administration experience in end-to-end Linux solutions   
  • Understanding of capacity management and working with applications development teams regarding capacity issues
  • VMware virtualization experience
  • Understanding and awareness of performance management
  • Experience with Amazon’s AWS preferred
  • Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field preferred
