Current Need
McKesson’s law department is seeking a senior transactional lawyer with health care experience to serve as lead business unit counsel for the Retail National Account customer segment of McKesson’s US Pharmaceutical drug distribution business.
 
Position Description
The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee the legal support for the US Pharma Retail National Account segment (RNA), which is comprised of regional and national pharmacy customers.  It is the largest division of US Pharma’s drug distribution business.
 
At the direction of the Assistant General Counsel, US Pharma, the lawyer will work on a team of 20 legal professionals and supervise all aspects of the business segment.  Responsibilities will include the following:
  • Working with senior executives to draft and negotiate complex drug distribution and other commercial contracts, including customer supply contracts, group purchasing arrangements, IT vendor contracts, and courier and third party logistics contracts.
  • Providing business unit legal counsel regarding new product launches, services and initiatives.
  • Working directly with sales executives, distribution center operations teams, customer service specialists and other cross-functional corporate teams to resolve complex legal issues.
  • Managing a fast-paced customer contracting process and prioritizing many simultaneous projects in an efficient and timely manner within a dynamic business and industry environment.

Critical Skills
  • Expertise at drafting and negotiating complex commercial transactional documents
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to provide sound, clear legal advice to corporate executives and other senior leaders within the sales organization and corporate support functions
  • Desire and aptitude to work in a collaborative environment on a team of high-performing legal professionals
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
 
Additional Knowledge & Skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of new business structures, risk management, and contract management
  • Combination of large law firm and in-house experienced preferred
  • Experience managing and overseeing outside counsel
  • Experience with health care transactions strongly preferred
  • Combination of law firm and in-house experience strongly preferred
  • Health care regulatory experience preferred (fraud and abuse, privacy, state provider licensing, FDA, DEA)
 
Education
  • Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials.
  • Member of a state bar in good standing
