General Statement of Duties:
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has responsibility for overseeing the medical affairs of the (Hospital). The CMO also plays a significant role in quality and utilization analysis, pathway development, and working to improve physician practice patterns and improving physician relations, in addition to serving as an active member of the Hospital's Administrative Team. The CMO is a full-time, exempt position within the Hospital's Administration, and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

Education: M.D. or D.O Certification

Experience: Previous Chief Medical Officer or Medical Director Position held
within a progressive and or complex health care system

The CMO should have: extensive experience with utilization review, analysis, and performance improvement techniques; prior experience as a Chief Medical Officer or Medical Director; outstanding written and oral communication ability; familiarity with Decision Support (DSS) and CHOIS information systems and a working knowledge of JCAHO standards. The CMO should display the following characteristics:

i. Decisiveness: Make the call. Defend the decision.
ii. Assertiveness: A bias for action. Be proactive, not reactive.
iii. Change Agent: Manage change to the desired outcome.
iv. Leadership: Educate colleagues; lead them to a better way
v. Advocacy: Assure that quality is met. Be a voice of reason.

Additionally, it is understood that the CMO, as a member of the Hospital's Administrative Team, is expected to represent the Hospital in the same manner in which other Hospital directors represent the organization specifically with a pro-hospital perspective with professionalism, and with an ability to tackle difficult issues on the Hospital's behalf.

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

Required : Licensed in the State of Texas Hospitals as an M.D. or D.O. (must be obtained within six months of start date)

Board Certification in a medical or surgical specialty required.

Preferred : MBA or equivalent desired; 10 years of clinical practice desired.
Additional credentials preferred, including membership in the American College of Physician Executives, American Board of Medical Management, or the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians.
