JOB SUMMARY: Investigates, evaluates, and resolves claims and lawsuits of a more severe and complex nature, or from a specialty line or program of significant value to the organization. File inventory typically includes litigation, complex coverage issues and average claim reserves of $200k up to $2 mil. May assist in the coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. May act as a subject matter expert in a particular line of business or risk. Has contact with external customers which involves maintaining, developing and influencing relationships with major customers or key business partners.RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Manager or Sr. ManagerJOB RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Investigates, evaluates, and negotiates more severe and complex claims and litigation to a successful resolution and in compliance with company quality standards. This may include such claims as arson, fraud, excess/umbrella, Directors and Officers, medical and legal malpractice, governmental liability, products and completed operations, premises bodily injury and property damage exposures of a more complex and severe nature.2. Responsible for managing the work and performance of lvendors to achieve successful resolution of claims.3. Responsible for meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.4. May assist in the development, coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. May act as a subject matter expert in a particular line of business or risk.5. Responsible for developing and maintaining open and trusting working relationships with insureds in order to gather pertinent information.6. Responsible for timely and appropriate evaluation of claims to identify and manage reserves in compliance with Company standards.7. Maintains current knowledge of: all insurance lines; court decisions which may impact the claims function; current guidelines in the claims function; and policy changes and modifications. This may require attendance at various seminars and training sessions.8. Performs other related duties as assigned.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Education: High School Diploma or GED required. College degree preferred. Undergraduate degree or post-graduate degree preferred.Licenses/Designations: Associates must obtain the required Federal and/or state licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit. Additional licenses/registrations may be required when new products and services are implemented. If an associate fails or is unable to obtain required licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position. Completion of insurance courses such as IIA, AEI, or CPCU preferred. Experience: 5 years prior experience as a Claim Analyst or five to ten years prior insurance claims or comparable work experience required. Prior experience in directing defense counsel required. Prior experience with complex coverage issues and reinsurance reporting required. Prior multi-jurisdictional, E&S or other specialty lines experience preferred. Specific experience in a particular line of business may be required by the hiring business unit.Knowledge: Specific knowledge in a particular line of business and/or additional education may be required by the hiring business unit. Familiarity with various types of insurance policies preferred.Skills/Competencies: Ability to analyze facts and coverages in order to evaluate damages. Ability to direct independent adjusters and attorneys in claims and litigation management. Proven ability in customer service required. Ability to communicate interpersonally with individuals and groups, via the telephone and in writing. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of technical/professional clients. Ability to develop and maintain open and trusting working relationships with insureds in order to gather pertinent information. Ability to work independently and deal with ambiguity.
