Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager, responsible for providing all levels of pharmacy services for assigned areas incorporating responsibility for both the clinical and distributive activities. This includes but is not limited to monitoring patient medication regimens, and providing appropriate interventions.
Based on specific assignment, incumbent will perform all or part of the duties listed below:
Coordinates, develops and implements day-to-day activities for specialized pharmacy areas. Conducts pharmacy in-services for pharmacy staff, physicians and nursing staff. Participate as a preceptor for pharmacy students on clinical rotations from the various programs. Coordinates and develops drug protocols and drug monographs for Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; performs the necessary quality assurance audits for these protocols. Develops policy and procedures for the pharmacy area. Assists with Controlled Dangerous Substance audit trail review, adverse drug reaction reporting and drug utilization review. Serves as a staff pharmacist when necessary.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
Position requires long periods of standing and walking. Will do some bending, stooping and reaching. May be required to do some lifting and carrying. May have some exposure to communicable diseases and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and procedures associated with pharmacology. Ability to prioritize work. Strong communication and writing skills. Knowledge of professional standards and state and federal guidelines governing the dispensing of drugs. Good computer skills with some familiarity with database maintenance and retrieval.
*Education: PGY2 Residency in Emergency Medicine/Critical Care.
*Experience: One (1) year experience as a clinical Pharmacist in an acute care hospital setting. Additional experience may be required based on specific assignment.
*Licensure: ACLS certification preferred or expected to obtain on the job.
*Note: Subsequent to orientation/training, must be proficient in intravenous admixture skills.
