Detailed Position Responsibilities: We are offering a research internship position in clinical informatics. The intern's main tasks include developing informatics solution prototypes to (1) Extract clinical information from patient medical records such as radiology and pathology reports, using natural language processing, and machine learning techniques (2) elaborate patient context models, (3) to visualize/summarize key results of interest. Towards the end of the internship, we will ask the intern to prepare a technical report as well as a presentation for the department. The candidate is expected to work in a team setting with scientists and contribute innovative ideas. We are looking for a graduate level student (preferably a Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Statistics, biomedical engineering, or a related field with Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning background. Strong programming skills (Python, R, C#, etc.), proficiency at querying relational databases (SQL). Knowledge of healthcare domain is desired. Knowledge of clinical terminologies and ontologies (UMLS, SNOMED, ICD, RadLex etc) is a plus. Candidate must be able to work within a team environment and should be self-motivated with the ability to plan and execute. Candidate should also be able to communicate in English effectively, both verbally and written.
