Position Description

The Application Systems Analyst – Laboratory will function as a subject matter expert and analyst for clinical application functions including Laboratory, Pharmacy, EHR, and any other clinical application or system used by the practices.  This will include implementation and support on project plans; addressing goals, deadlines, testing, implementation and post-live support of assigned laboratory applications like Orchard Harvest, Orchard Copia, and Labdaq, as well as other types of applications.

 The Application Systems Analyst responds to and processes all activities for the maintenance and support of lab, pharmacy, and EHR platforms to meet specified strategic and management objectives for the organization as well as for the individual user markets. Additionally, this position is responsible for the daily system performance and escalation of issues to the appropriate technical staff, functional staff, and/or vendor representatives.  The Application Systems Analyst stays engaged with the client until satisfactory resolution, or appropriate hand-off is achieved.

 This role is responsible for collaborating with others to create a culture of service to the various user markets.  The Application Systems Analyst will interact and collaborate with fellow application department staff as well as with source vendors and internal interface teams to create a level of customer service that exceeds user expectations. 

The Analyst follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be researched and obtained. The Analyst exercises strategic and critical judgment within defined standards and guidelines. The Analyst collaborates with others to interview clients, capture basic business requirements, and research existing business and system processes.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists in Laboratory (Orchard Harvest, Orchard Copia, Labdaq, etc.), Pharmacy and EHR applications design to include functional integration, dictionary development, interface testing, system testing, drug pricing updates, daily, weekly and monthly reports, and electronic transactions as it relates to the clinical systems.
  • Interacts with users and applies Laboratory, Pharmacy and EHR application and business process knowledge to understand, anticipate, and support user requirements.
  • Replicates and diagnoses complex Laboratory, Pharmacy, and/or EHR application issues and recommends or performs remedial action to correct problems using comprehensive application knowledge and business practice knowledge.
  • Produces all necessary application inventory documentation on systems and applications used by the practices.
  • Coordinates vendor meetings and/or network communications when experiencing significant application systems issues.
  • Manages and monitors application system interfaces, and works with vendor and technical teams to enhance, change and reconfigure interfaces as needed.
  • Verifies that engineering teams are conducting all necessary system security, backups and OS upgrades in a timely fashion and after thorough testing.
  • Coordinates and manages all technical issues with the clinical applications associated with improving application systems architecture to provide best practices and application performance for the clinical users.
  • Provides second level support for clinical applications.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements

6+ years experience in designing, building, and implementing business solutions using information technology.  

Significant experience in business analysis, requirements definition and deployment of business requirements to information systems.



Critical Skills
  • 3 to 5 years Laboratory applications experience
  • Experience or strong knowledge of Laboratory, test maintenance, HL7 interface formats (results, orders, ADT),  and integration with other systems
  • Subject matter expertise in Orchard Harvest/Copia Laboratory systems
  • Subject matter expertise in Laboratory business practices
  • Working knowledge of clinical/healthcare field and computer applications
  • Collaborative, customer-focused attitude and ability to create value for USON
  • Leadership style that builds collaboration
Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing priorities 

Additional Knowledge & Skills
Working knowledge of procedures & utilities, & good written & verbal communication skills -Working knowledge of technical system design 
Working knowledge of industry trends & technology  
Working knowledge of company technology processes & procedures (e.g., Open Source)
Healthcare operations and general Clinical applications experience highly desired 

Education
4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
4 year degree in the Clinical field of Nursing, Pharmacy, or Laboratory or equivalent experience preferred

Physical Requirements
General Office Demands
Large percent of time performing computer based work is required.
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds 

Working Conditions-
Traditional office environment
Travel occasionally, 10%.
