Sr. Manager or Director, Commercial Lender Finance Underwriter - Chicago or New York City
Manage and/or assist in the origination, structuring, underwriting and closing of Asset-Backed Commercial Lender Finance opportunities including the negotiation of legal documents for individual transactions. Will play a lead role in managing potential structured products finance transactions through the credit approval process. Interact with senior management (e.g. CEOs and CFOs) of potential borrowers as a part of the diligence and closing process for new transactions. Assist portfolio management group in post-closing customer interaction and asset management, as necessary.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Evaluate potential transactions to determine quality of lending opportunities and appropriate transaction structure to mitigate risk and maximize return on investment;
-Identify specific merits, risks and mitigants for each transaction. Perform due diligence including industry, company and financial analysis;
-Manage internal deal screening, risk analysis, pricing analysis and internal credit approval process; evaluate risk/return dynamics for proposed transactions;
-Draft and negotiate term sheets, commitment letters and loan documents; prepare internal memoranda for review and approval of new transactions;
-Support legal documentation and execution of new transactions;
-Travel to client sites to perform due diligence associated with potential financings; and
-Construct and maintain detailed financial models; develop sensitivity analysis around key economic drivers.
-Experience in underwriting/credit analysis, transaction execution, and relationship management experience in Lender Finance.
-Experience in [both recourse and] non-recourse lending
-Sector experience in financial institutions, including some of the following financial sectors:
-C&I loans/Cash Flow Loans
-Student loan finance
-Experience negotiating documentation with clients, other banks and institutional investors, and others (including rating agencies)
-Strong credit skills
-Strong analytical and modeling skills
-Able to work in team environment, able to deal with complexity and with multiple teams and deals at same time
-Proficient in generating PowerPoint presentations
-Strong written and oral communication skills
-Familiarity with financing options (and products) available to financial institutions, including cash flow lending, bond issuance, secured recourse lending, non-recourse lending (I.e. securitization), mezzanine credit, hedging.
-Familiarity/experience with Agent roles and responsibilities
-Rating agency experience (corporate and structured products)
- Capital markets/ABS research experience
- Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience
- CFA designation
- Completion of a bank credit training program
- At least 7 years of commercial underwriting experience
