This is an opportunity to work with one of the largest and most dynamic portfolios within Nationwide IT with over $200M in resource hours, demand that flows out of and across all 23 BSAs, with over 17 direct Business Unit Face-offs. The Infrastructure Portfolio Team manages the resource demand flow to over 1300 associates and 120 resource managers. The newest team member will have the opportunity to manage the Planning, Scheduling and Execution of the Shared IT Portfolio across all of IT. The incumbent will coordinate and plan the consolidated plans for Shared IT demand that flows across IT. Strong data mining and analytic skills combined with the ability to communicate through data will help to influence change across Nationwide IT. As the only portfolio group within I&O, this opportunity also provides a broad exposure to all levels of management including the CIO, VPs and AVPs typically not offered in many other roles. Lastly, this position offers a challenging, dynamic environment with a good mix of strategic and tactical work as the team moves the Portfolio Maturity Model forward. Additional objectives may include:Portfolio owner for Shared IT. Responsible for the Planning, Scheduling and Execution of work in assigned portfolios.Team Lead role for Team Standard Work of Portfolio Coordinators. Establishing and maintaining consistency across all team members and technology towers.Responsible for the Planning function of Portfolio Management. Mature the Integrated Planning Capability toward Increased Alignment between I&O and BSA Areas. Provide a 90 Day Lens on I&O and BSA Demand.Influence the team to raise the portfolio management capability of the entire I&O organization; Including but not limited to accuracy and maturity of project planning, resource planning, relevant and holistic delivery processes/mechanisms to ensure control for the entire portfolio.Act as key lieutenant for organization and backup for leader in support of the mission ensuring execution and maintaining morale and engagement.

JOB SUMMARY: Individual contributor with expertise in particular IT systems processes. Responsible for very complex systems process analysis, design, implementation, execution, operational management and/or monitoring, reporting and governance. Serves as an expert in the analysis of existing processes, procedures and methods to ensure and promote effective systems operations through standardization, improvement, simplification, discontinuance or other methods. Creates system process change by integrating new processes with existing ones. Leads in the management and implementation of proposed system process and procedure enhancements between work teams and operational departments. Responsible for day-to-day operational management (including communication and facilitation) of the IT process, IT process events and process deliverables. May focus on process development or execution.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Manager/Director


+ Viewed as an expert in the design, development configuration, customization, deployment, maintenance and upgrading of IT system processes and procedures. Ensures processes are followed within systems organizations. Manages customer communication and the process results to a satisfactory level.

+ May manage the day-to-day operations of IT systems processes with recognized expertise, including the operation of process-related tools. Manages key process events and the fulfillment of customer requests and process deliverables through all phases of the process lifecycle.

+ Consults and provides expertise to executives, customers and core business functions on IT process redesign and/or re-engineering initiatives and projects through continual process improvements. Identifies and implements new and creative IT systems process redesigns and strategies through facilitation and marketing.

+ Consults as a process expert on IT systems process evaluations and developing recommendations by use of benchmarks, pilots, prototyping and modeling to assess potential use of new methods and workflows within a IT system process. Consults on the evaluation of systems processes for design effectiveness and resource utilization to ensure process performance meets targeted service levels.

+ Viewed as an expert in the analysis and alignment of customer strategic requirements with the organization's infrastructure components including process design, product delivery, information technology systems, organizational functions and overall business structure. Develops and provides recommendations on possible process, tool and control enhancements to increase the quality and optimization of IT services and resources. Leads ongoing process design activities for a given set of systems organizations as an expert process consultant.

+ Manages and negotiates timelines and purpose of IT systems process design projects. Serves as a subject matter expert on a project team involved with the development, implementation, administration and operation of new IT system processes and strategies, which may include multiple functions, product lines, technology platforms and business activities. Serves as a subject matter expert on post-implementation and conformance reviews for complex processes to ensure conformance to IT process requirements.

+ Provides expert consultation for complex IT systems process tools and methods in order to develop, design, implement, monitor, maintain, operate and improve IT system processes. Mentors, educates and trains others on the use of process design techniques, methods and tools as well as on the use of and execution of IT systems processes and tools.

+ Accountable for quality including data accuracy and integrity and adherence to metrics and reporting standards.

+ Acts as an expert process consultant for large-scale IT projects that involve or impact IT system processes. Serves as a consultant for the most complex process design projects involving process disciplines and entire business units.

+ Acts as a source of IT systems process expertise for direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff. Recognized across the organization for process design, support and systems expertise and sought as a resource for resolution of complex system design, implementation, support and systems problems.

+ Contributes to the overall strategic vision and provides a broad range of ideas regarding process design, implementation, support and systems initiatives. May serve in an operational authority or approval role in the execution of processes.

+ Consults on demand and capacity needs and supports portfolio planning as directed.

+ With expert competency, ensures effective transition from "Plan" to "Build" by facilitating work requests through the demand process.

+ With expert competency, manages all release activities, including release planning, building, deploying, reporting and trend analysis.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: Undergraduate degree in areas related to computer science, management information systems, business or mathematics preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: IT Technical and process-related certifications preferred. Prefer product-related technical insurance course work (CPCU, CPU, LOMA).

Experience: Typically eight or more years related experience in IT systems process design or operations.

Knowledge: Maintains and comprehends IT systems process operations or redesign techniques, methods and tools. Maintains current understanding of technological trends to support IT process design and operations to improve performance. Maintains current understanding of insurance and financial services industry, focusing on the Nationwide enterprise and key competitors.

Skills/Competencies: Must have demonstrated expertise in IT process analysis, process design and process implementation, including current technologies. Working knowledge of IT service management processes, application development processes or IT operations processes required. Demonstrated knowledge of project management concepts and techniques required. Competency in IT process development or process operations preferred. Proven leadership skills with the ability to work with technical teams including virtual teams. Must have the ability to work with technology vendors in the delivery of project solutions. Must have a breadth of understanding of technology and IT market trends. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to make decisions and recommendations on process strategies.
