The Corporate Affairs Director will be the principal product communication counselor focusing on Amgen's oncology portfolio. Leading a team of two other communicators this individual will be the key corporate communications liaison to the largest therapeutic area at Amgen and responsible for all of the communications around the planning and execution of marketing and sales for this therapeutic area globally.
In addition, this individual would be working closely with other key functions and teams. Responsible to interface with multiple work streams to help coordinate and deliver a consistent and compelling message to key media and other critical audiences.
Develop communications strategies and plans that help our commercial teams effectively and consistently communicate to their key audiences. Once fully vetted and approved, flawlessly execute on those plans and deliver measurable results.
Serve as a member of the business unit leadership team.
Serve as the corporate communications representative on formal and informal internal groups that have been created to develop strategies and tactics to successfully launch this product.
Lead and manage a team of product communications professionals to help in both the planning and execution phases and well as providing mentoring, role modeling, and development opportunities for their staff.
Develop, enhance and cultivate new and existing relationships between key media.
Proactively identify and manage perceptions of key health policy issues likely to affect Amgen in the area of oncology, and develop and implement strategic communications activities helpful to Amgen's business goals in this area.
Develop news releases and other media materials to support this product; including key data releases, medical congresses, critical milestones, scientific presentations, product issues and follow process for review and approval.
Along with his/her team, handle incoming media requests about the product.
Manage and direct public relations agency partners to assure maximum impact and assistance in reaching desired communications goals and objectives.
Anticipate and proactively prepare company spokespeople and third party spokespersons for issues or events; including media training spokespeople relative to the launch of this product.
Work with key internal communication professionals to ensure awareness of key product milestones and news associated with the product with Amgen staff.
Doctorate degree and 4 years of Corporate Services experience
Master's degree and 7 years of Corporate Services experience
Bachelor's degree and 9 years of Corporate Services experience
Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare product public relations including corporate experience.
8+ years at the Director level, including working in-house leading the communications activities surrounding the launch of a major pharmaceutical or biotechnology drug.
Policy and / or crisis management experience.
Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications or journalism.
Knowledge and understanding of key marketplace factors for pharmaceuticals and biologics, as well as critical business issues and drivers.
Ability to interact with all levels of management and manage staff and vendors.
Superior writing skills and proven media relations skills that are results-oriented.
Ability to develop actionable programs that integrate soundly with business objectives.
Demonstrated ability to apply practical or technical knowledge and experience to policy issues.
Ability to think quickly, analytically and creatively to accommodate a dynamic communications environment.
