The property and casualty business is a growth engine for MetLife. This position will impact the Property & Casualty companies’ bottom and top line results and assist in positioning them for the future, by providing strategic, proactive counsel on material growth initiatives including the development and deployment of new digital products and platforms.  The role entails support of both the companies’ profitable growth objectives and its risk management efforts.





The successful candidate will provide strategic counsel to MetLife’s Property & Casualty insurance segment regarding every aspect of its business operations.  The top specific responsibilities that are core to success in this role include:


  • Supporting ongoing digital and re-platforming initiatives.
  • Supporting efforts to expand voluntary business across Group Benefit Markets and to grow the Small Market segment, e.g., small commercial.
  • Monitoring laws and trends in an evolving legal and regulatory environment, determining their impact, and developing compliant solutions and preventative law measures to mitigate risk; proactively developing and advancing positions that appropriately further MetLife’s priorities; and responding to regulatory inquiries and market conduct issues.
  • Advising business partners with respect to claims, product management, underwriting, marketing, distribution, mass marketing, servicing, and administration.
  • Familiarizing oneself with Law Department and business line operations with an eye toward identifying potential efficiencies and opportunities for the company or its customers, as part of the MetLife Way.





  • Demonstrated ability to proactively advise on, and positively influence, state laws and regulations.
  • Experience dealing with insurance company regulators is preferable.
  • Experience with e-commerce/digital business, insurance or financial services is highly desirable.
  • Experience proactively identifying potential legal and business risks, developing positions and measures for mitigating such risks, and articulating these in a manner that is clear and concise.
  • Licensed attorney with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and J.D. from an accredited law school.




Warwick: 5 - 10%

New York: 10 - 15%
