Pfizer's Environmental Law Group offers a unique opportunity for a qualified environmental, health and safety attorney to work in a broad, diverse and challenging legal practice with a dynamic client. In this global role, the successful candidate will provide timely, business sensitive legal advice on environmental, health and safety matters including transactional matters (including acquisitions, divestitures, and other commercial contracts including supplier agreements), regulatory and compliance matters, enforcement defense, and legal support to Global EHS programs (including audit and other substantive EHS matters). The successful candidate will also support the company on Environmental Sustainability and climate change matters and may provide support on historic environmental liabilities (e.g. CERCLA). Responsibilities include: Transactional support: Drafting, reviewing and negotiating EH&S provisions in various agreements, including the purchase and sale of businesses, real property, contract manufacturing and procurement of drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Participating in merger, acquisition, divestiture, and business development due diligence. Regulatory & Compliance Counseling: Providing legal advice and analysis on a wide range of environment, health and safety regulatory and permitting matters, such as air, water, waste, hazardous materials, chemicals management (e.g. REACH), hazard communication, OSHA, and environmental remediation matters. Supporting Global EHS Program Development & Implementation: Assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of company environment, health, safety and Environmental Sustainability programs and policies. Providing legal support for EHS audits of operating facilities. Enforcement and Claims Management: Representing Pfizer and overseeing outside counsel in enforcement and administrative proceedings. Providing legal support for the defense of environmental, health and safety claims. Historic Environmental Liabilities: Providing legal support for environmental cleanup sites and remediation efforts. Policy Support & Advocacy: Reviewing and providing advice and comments, as may be required, on pending legislation and rulemaking activities by U.S. and non-U.S. governmental agencies. Qualifications Education: J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school. Work Experience: Minimum of 6 years of recent environmental, health & safety legal practice in a law firm, corporate legal department, or with the government. Knowledge of major U.S. environmental and employee health and safety statutes (including CAA, RCRA, CWA, CERCLA, OSHA). Knowledge of environmental and employee health and safety laws in EU, China, India or other international jurisdictions a plus. Transactional and regulatory counseling experience required. Proactive approach to understanding, evaluating, and advising on complex environmental, health and safety legal matters. Excellent drafting and negotiating skills. Experience in defending against enforcement by government agencies. Experience in third-party supply chain matters a plus. Experience on product sustainability matters and climate change a plus. Willingness to learn new substantive areas of law. Outstanding attention to detail, and ability to multi-task under tight deadlines. Must be a collegial team player with effective verbal and written skills able to work with a wide range of clients.
