Credit Risk Senior Staff - Small Business Administration ( SBA )

Job Summary

LOCATIONS: Chicago, Oak Brook, IL, New York, Atlanta, Indianapolis, DC, Los Angeles, Dallas, Grand Rapids and Columbus.

 

This position will be responsible for leading Small Business Administration (SBA) 7a reviews, writing reports, managing teams and working closely with the SBA on the various types of compliance reviews of SBA Lenders as well as be able to perform commercial loan review work when not reviewing SBA Loans.  Deep and technical knowledge of SBA SOPs is needed to perform this work (minimum of 10 years of SBA experience is required).  In addition to SBA knowledge, a strong understanding of commercial lending is needed. 

 

The focus of this position is to perform SBA compliance reviews. The applicant should be comfortable, have knowledge of loan review, and overall credit consulting. 

This would include providing loan review services and consulting with clients on credit related matters.  Supervise, train and review the work of other consultants.  Manage key aspects of client service projects from planning to completion.  Become a trusted advisor to client management by providing appropriate recommendations and solutions. Able to make and sustain meaningful client relationships.  Support proposal and business development activities by identifying new target clients, building business relationships with key executives, developing/presenting proposals and handle other duties assigned by employer.


Qualifications
  • SBA Underwriting, knowledge of SBA SOPs, Commercial Underwriting, Lending experience required / not a role for consumer finance experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience of working in financial institutions or regulatory supervisory institutions.
  • Deep understanding of the SBA 7a program and working knowledge of 7a SOPs.
  • Overall understanding of SBA lending, including 7a program (mentioned above) and 504 program.
  • Knowledge of risk rating methodology are required.
  • Management and team leadership is a plus.
  • Working knowledge as a credit expert.
  • Direct and deliver significant engagements that deliver value to clients through project management, creation of deliverables and knowledge transfer.
  • Manages engagement to ensure quality is delivered within budget.
  • Understanding of credit processes, such as loan origination and underwriting; credit policies; portfolio management, allowance for loan and lease losses; loan review and remediation.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state banking laws related to credit risk.
  • A self-starter who can prioritize multiple tasks, be resourceful and able to research and find solutions.
  • Write and present to clients clear and concise reports and presentations containing meaningful recommendations.
  • Willingness to travel 60% or more annually.
  • Additional skills desired
  • Graduate degree a plus.
  • Professional certification a plus (i.e. – RMA CRC).
  • High level of comfort using technology.
  • Bilingual a plus.
