Position Summary:

The Crisis Specialist provides a variety of social work services to individual patients and their families, identifying psychiatric emergencies by providing an assessment that utilizes DSM IV criteria for mental illness. Through education and support, assists patients and their families as they face psychosocial and medical problems; Identifies and secures community resources that best meet the needs of the patient while providing a smooth transition from an acute care setting to an appropriate level of care; Advocates for patients of all ages when they cannot advocate for themselves; Works cooperatively and communicates professionally with members of the healthcare team. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.
Education :

  • A Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or a related field is required

  • Must be a Licensed Social Work (LCSW) or related field (LPC or LMHC)


  • A Minimum of five years experience in psychiatric/psychosocial patient care is required
  • Previous experience in crisis intervention, counseling, and psychosocial assessment is required
  • Must possess a working knowledge of the DSM IV
  • Must possess solid organizational skills, be able function independently while communicating in a professional manner with other healthcare providers, patients and families
  • Should have knowledge of community systems and experience in discharge planning and placement
  • Mixed Shifts - Day/Evening position - no overnights required
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
