Principal Data Scientist

This is a new position within the Data Science team created to lead the Data Science Team in new areas of opportunity and focus including leveraging Verizon’s Big Data environment. 

You will work on analytics in support of departments across the business including marketing, finance, customer care and sales. You will work on predictive modeling in support of solving business problems including acquiring new customers, selling new products, and reducing churn. You’ll have the opportunity to work on interesting and unique large data sets.

As a Principal Data Scientist you will partner with senior leadership within Verizon to develop new strategies and solutions for the business. You will use a combination of the typical Data Scientist math and analytical skills, with research, advanced business, communication, and presentation skills.


Must have:
•Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree Statistics, Math, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Data Science or a related field or equivalent work experience
•Strong hands-on experience software packages SAS, SPSS, R, Python
•Recent hands on experience building predictive models and algorithms in support of solving business problems
•Strong experience with SQL
•Experience creating and presenting Executive level presentations.

Ideally, you will also have:
•PhD in related area
•Experience with Teradata or Hadoop
•Teamwork & collaboration skills to work across organizations and lead cross-functional teams
•Communication & stakeholder management skills
