The SQL Database Administrator (DBA) is a senior position responsible for providing technical support for the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the company. It is extremely important to the company that on-line processing database systems offer the highest reliability and performance possible.
The DBA develops a methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance and the identification of problem areas. They develop a security scheme for the database environment, as well as assisting in disaster recovery if necessary. They will provide leadership during the development and enhancement of production applications including working with applications, technical support and operations during the design, development and implementation of applications. Work with others in IT to build the logical database area and provide technical guidance during all phases of the development process. Work with vendors in evaluating and implementing new technologies.
Independently creating, modifying and implementing complex database scripts
Independently investigating and resolving complex database issues
Performing the migration of the current enterprise environment to any new environment
Establish and maintain appropriate end-user database access control levels, actively monitor the databases to ensure secure availability and performance within internal and external SLAs
Monitor and validate that the various database backup operations are successful
Maintain, create, and monitor various database processes
Work with application development and production support staff to provide database guidance and ensure coding standards are adhered to
Proactively monitor the system hardware utilization, make capacity planning periodically for database systems
Escalate problems to management and related teams as appropriate
Production support for database related issues
4+ years experience in database administrationCritical Skills
4+ years IT operation with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014 Enterprise edition
4+ years strong customer service orientation working supporting end users
2+ years experience using SQL Integration Services (SSIS)
2+ years experience with Powershell
