The role of Technical Database Lead requires a deep technical background to manage our global core Database technologies as well as understanding of Open Source Solutions. The role is a combined development and operations (DevOps) role to drive key company initiatives and capabilities to maintain new levels of efficiency, agility, control, and recoverability of all environments with the technical expertise in engineering and operations across Johnson and Johnson, worldwide.

  • Drive Global Strategic Initiatives and act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to guide and interact with IT and business partners in cross-sector collaboration and participate in peer workgroups and conferences where industry trends and best practices are discussed.
  • Execute delivery of DBaaS (Database as a Service) initiatives.
  • Possess a full knowledge of day-to-day operations to identify opportunities for optimization to reduce or eliminate database process inefficiencies.
  • Provide guidance and support and resolve day-to-day operations to the managed service team.
  • Perform in-depth system analysis, recognizes problems, opportunities or underlying patterns and relationships. Is able to analyze requirements and translate them into priorities and action plans.
  • Participate in technical discussions and evaluate material being presented and understand overall impact to operations and support.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and performance tuning skills in each DBMS technology to drive to “root cause” in Critical Response incidents.

  • Work closely with Technical managers to help define and carry out technical tasks required by projects.
  • Improve I/T Risk Profile by reducing regulatory, security, compliance and availability risk.
  • Evaluate and drive incident and problem management through YoY productivity improvements.
  • Present technical solutions in an articulate and professional manner to internal and external customers.
  • Full knowledge of installation, configuration, and patching of both Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts used to perform daily database administration tasks.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation support day to day operations.
  • Perform system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Possess presentation skills, as a confident communicator who is enthusiastic, self-starting and flexible in style and approach.
  • Multi-task and adapt quickly to unforeseen projects that will take priority in an ever changing environment.
  • Clearly communicate and drive to closure project efforts with minimal over site for critical complex initiatives related to the platform, such as requirements gathering, scheduling, resource planning and budgeting thru to deployment.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related degree and 8+ years of industry experience are required.
  • Professional certifications in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server are a plus.
  • A minimum of 8+ years of IT experience is required. Extensive experience with Technology in the areas of Oracle and SQL Server Databases. The qualified candidate will have demonstrated success throughout his/her career across diverse cross-section of technologies and project roles.
  • 5+ years’ experience hands on management of relational databases (Oracle and SQL Server) on enterprise-level server platforms.
  • A minimum of 5+ years Database Administration experience within a large-scale, global organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong collaboration, team-building is required.
  • A minimum 5 years’ experience with VMWare, VRealize, VCloud, Windows, HPUX, and Linux platforms is required.
  • Experience with software installation and configuration is required.
  • Working knowledge of Linux shell and/or PowerShell scripting is required.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure support tools for DBaaS, for administration, configuration, job scheduling, monitoring, automation, auditing, and security is required.
  • The role requires expertise in areas of database security, compliance, backup and recovery of database platforms for the Enterprise.
  • Experience in the delivery of DBaaS (Database as a Service) is preferred.
  • Previous experience and ability to work with managed service teams.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a 24 x 7 support model.
  • An in-depth knowledge of SDDC (software defined data center) where all infrastructure is virtualized and delivered as a service is required.
  • Strong leadership skills

  • Ability to utilize PMP methodology, SCRUM methodology, and DevOps in day to day work Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly terms
  • Ability to create business cases and budgets
  • JIRA a plus.
  • Working knowledge of open source automation tools, such as Chef or Puppet is a plus.
  • 3+ years of knowledge on Open Source Database is a plus.
  • Microsoft office suite
  • 10% travel may be required
