The Department Mechanics are general mechanics with skills used to troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment in a medical products manufacturing environment.         

Essential Functions:
  • Set-up, repair, trouble-shoot, maintain and replace parts of production equipment such as:  braiders, sipp machine, hacobas, hot stretch, inspection tables, skeiners, waxers, anneal ovens, coating lines, bulk spoolers, and tube winders.
  • Make adjustments, grease, and clean equipment, as required
  • Perform cleaning of assigned moisture meters
  • Perform cleaning of assigned anneal ovens
  • Assist in transport of raw materials, supplies and equipment to and from departments as needed
  • Monitor the braiders on a continuous basis to ensure they are producing the best possible quality product, repair all braiders flagged
  • Detect, troubleshoot, and resolve quality problems
  • Document Maintenance/Preventive Maintenance on all equipment per the Preventive Maintenance System
  • Perform assigned Preventive Maintenance per company procedures
  • Perform wax changes on the waxer as required
  • Cross train on other jobs within the department and perform those jobs when required
  • Serve as backup for set-up and doffing associates, if cross-trained
  • Install or adjust braider guarding
  • Support of mixing room
  • Comply with all federally regulated programs
  • Adhere to J&J environmental and safety policies and guidelines.
  • Comply with all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary
  • Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions
  • Use test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, etc.) where applicable
  • Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.)
  • Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE’s), if applicable
  • Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives.
  • Support Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care
  • Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation)
  • Consistently meet required Training due date targets
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all production equipment in area assigned according to the schedule, keeping neat and correct records
  • Make general decisions on equipment operation and breakdowns
  • Determine necessary tools and material requirements for specific assignments
  • Interface with appropriate manufacturing representatives to ensure manufacturing operations and projects receive effective technical support
  • Follow current compliance regulations and standards to include JSA’s
  • Adhere to FDA quality and worldwide quality systems
  • Perform work in a safe manner, as well as, keep equipment clean and in safe working condition

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational mechanical training highly preferred
  • 4+ years of related experience required
  • 2+ years of mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment highly preferred
  • Experience in analytical problem solving and mechanical trouble shooting of equipment required
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office required including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) experience highly preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • General knowledge of and ability to use basic hand and power tools required
  • Must attend specialized training classes on repair, maintenance and analytical trouble shooting when required
  • Basic math skills required (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, decimals, percentages, rounding, and tolerances); Must be able to pass basic math test
  • Ability to maintain accurate records required
  • Ability to work in a stressful/fast paced environment required
  • Ability to work and interact with co-workers to accomplish company goals in a team environment required
  • Ability to work independently without continuous supervision required
  • Must be willing and able to meet the physical requirements which includes:  Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. with assistance or mechanically aided, lifting from ground to knees, lifting from ground to waist, lifting from ground to shoulders, lifting from ground to overhead, lifting from waist to shoulders, lifting from waist to overhead, overhead work including pushing/pulling/reaching, standing, kneeling, sitting, walking, climbing
  • Must be willing and able to work the A shift (7am -7pm) or D shift (7pm – 7am) on a regular and long-term basis
