Here at the Cummins Sales & Service Engine Integration Center (EIC) in Ankeny, Iowa, we support the OEM business sector of the Cummins Central Region by supplying on & off-highway engines and their related components, to be used in first fit applications. This upfit center consists of many departments such as purchasing, manufacturing warehouse & assembly, sales team, quality and engineering.
The purpose of this job is to provide engineering expertise in specifying, designing, documenting, and supporting machine-based engine systems for original equipment manufacturers (OEM's). Much of the time in this job is spent on application design, computer aided design (CAD), and drawing creation as well as prototype building and project documentation. Our Design Engineer will meet with customers in person to identify their needs and design prototypes that cater to them. The Design Engineer may have managerial responsibility for Engineering Interns as well.
Develop specifications for machine-based diesel engine systems for OEMs.
Size engine related sub-systems such as air intake, exhaust, etc. to meet Cummins requirements.
Perform design work using 3D computer aided design (CAD) and drawing creation in collaboration with customer's machine systems integration.
Calculate and gather information for design of systems to be documented into Cummins installation systems.
Communicate with component suppliers and customers to verify correct design calculations and customer specifications by means of design reviews and component approvals.
Create 2D drawings/layouts/schematics and specification development for component suppliers.
Create bill of materials for internal procurement personnel for product release to the Cummins business system.
Complete project documentation for customer and internal manufacturing requirements.
Provide design post-production support to internal production and the customer.
Provide technical assistance and training to OEMs and engineering support to Sales, Operations, and Quality departments as necessary.
Ensure the products Cummins sells meet Cummins' installation requirements and OEM needs.
Endorse and comply with all Cummins' safety policies and initiatives.
Endorse and actively supports Cummins Customer Service Excellence (CSE) efforts.
Supplies technical expertise on complex components or projects with minimal supervision.
Leads small projects or portions of large projects.
Provides technical direction for a project or a project team.
Participates as a key contributor and is accountable for project success.

Intermediate level of design engineering experience.
Customer service experience.
Experience in consulting with OEM customers, preferred.
Application design experience, preferred.
Project management experience, preferred.
Knowledge of agriculture and construction machinery and equipment interfacing systems to the diesel engine.
Knowledge of diesel/internal combustion engines in order to facilitate application functions.
Masters or Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering, or related field.
