Reporting to the Creative Director, 343 is looking for an experienced Design Manager who has a passion for creating compelling gameplay experiences to manage our studio's Design Department. The team is comprised of the following disciplines: Systems/Sandbox Design, Character Design, Online Experiences, Narrative Design, Campaign Design, and Multiplayer Design.

This role is a management position focused on mentoring Design Department team members; promoting and fostering excellence in the art of game design, and driving departmental recruitment. You will also develop training processes, drive documentation and present growth opportunities for individual team members as well as oversee performance reviews. In addition, you will be a key member of 343's leadership team, fostering consistent management practices and culture across the Studio.

Job Responsibilities:
•Manage, mentor, inspire, and motivate the design team to maintain a positive and highly creative atmosphere.
•Cultivate and maintain an exciting and rewarding Design culture to ensure 343 is always the first choice for Designers in the industry.
•Proactively develop the talent on the Design team, co-constructing performance goals, objectives, development plans, and providing ongoing constructive performance feedback.
•Partner with Project Leads to ensure internal/external teams are fully supported.
•Assist Creative Director, Directors, and Design Leads with project specific issues.
•Review and research tools, methods, education, reference materials, and cutting-edge techniques to implement into development pipelines.
•A consummate team player who exhibits excellent communication, analytical and leaderships skills
•Anticipate threats to quality and innovation and work effectively with the team leads to mitigate.
•Build and maintain collaborative relationships with all development functions to ensure a best-in-industry production process and team environment.
•Advise on staffing requirements, participate in design hiring.

Requirements/Skills:
•8+ years working in a design capacity on console titles with at least 3 titles shipped in a Design Director or Lead Designer
•Experience in effectively managing personnel and developing a large scale, high performance team.
•Experience leading a design team through all phases of development from concept to ship.
•A strong desire to focus on a management/strategic role within the game Design discipline, as opposed to a highly creative role.
•Proven track record for delivering both quality and innovation
•Excellent leadership and effective communication skills.
•Previous experience as a designer in gaming.
•Excellent presentation, and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
•A working knowledge of standard industry game engines, design toolsets and production pipelines.

Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification:
•B.A. degree preferred, or equivalent game experience.
