IBM Brand Strategy & Experience Design (BSXD) is responsible for the sophistication, strategic evolution and expression of the IBM brand and sub-brands in every experience and encounter, internally and externally. We represent and support all IBM businesses horizontally and vertically. Our work crosses nearly every category of output: research and strategy, communications and content development, symbology and systems, digital and physical experiences, tools and training. Our global goal is to maintain modernity, tangibility and understanding of the IBM brand in the world.
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Designer (Events & Environments) to work on a broad range of projects, from large format branded events to wayfinding systems and corporate signage. As part of the IBM Brand Strategy and Experience Design team, the Designer will execute the design strategy and concept and produce concepts into reality. He/she will have a strong understanding of and passion for how people interact with and move through branded environments. The right candidate should have conceptual skills with identity design, iconography, and brand systems. This professional is experienced in print, digital and its various applications: collateral systems, brochures and non-traditional pieces, in addition, experience developing brand guidelines.
  • Help advance environmental design at IBM.
  • Manage projects from conception, design, to execution and advocacy.
  • Bring abstract concepts to life though typography, illustration, iconography, photography, and digital media.
  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale both verbally and visually.
  • Demonstrate a passion for bringing brands to life via physical spaces, in coordination with architectural, interior and digital elements.
  • Work with senior team members to establish priority, fidelity and delivery of tasks.
  • Manage and oversee supporting team members day-to-day project tasks.
  • Collaborate well with others-stakeholders, technical teams, agency partners and other designers.
  • Design and maintain style guides, UI toolkits and other design documents that provoke reactions.
  • Produce deliverables including print collateral, environmental graphics, user interface, and signage.
This individual must excel at:
  • Designing experiences across media: print, digital and physical/event(s).
  • Distinguishing good design from bad, careless from well-conceived and crafted.
  • Flawless execution of the audience journey across global events.
  • Utilizing your knowledge of grids, typography, graphic design, color, layout, iconography, imagery, and design patterns and systems to address ambiguous, complex problems and projects.
  • Understanding of scale, typography, color, materials and lighting and their roles within physical spaces.
  • Expert knowledge of environmental graphic design, material specification, sampling, production and installation requirements.
  • Ability to work in scale, read construction documents, and coordinate with consultant teams.
  • Creation of production files and final artwork for the built environment.
  • Readdressing change with flexibility and ease.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment, inspiring and motivating their team.
  • Animation and motion skills a plus.
  • Manage projects from conception, design, to execution and advocacy.
  • Thrive in an agile development environment and team.
  • Collaborate well with others (stakeholders, technical teams, agency partners and other designers).
  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale both verbally and visually.
This role is located in IBM offices in New York City, NY.

Must have the ability to work in the US without current/future need for IBM sponsorship.
