Development Specialist I
Develop new oxy-fuel technologies for various industries, including glass, steel, metals, oil, and energy. Identify and pursue industrial applications with potential for oxy-fuel combustion and develop oxy-fuel technologies for applications. Interact with various internal and external stakeholders and customers, including business development professionals, sales professionals, technical professionals, procurement professionals, marketing professionals, managers, and directors. Work with business development professionals to identify potential opportunities for oxy-fuel combustion. Develop new oxy-fuel technology concepts and modify an existing oxy-fuel technology design to suit applications. Review project’s internal rate of return (IRR) and net present value (NPV) based on an estimated capex spend and potential future revenue streams to assess the economic impact of the project on the company. Present the project proposal to the various internal stakeholders including R&D managers, business development managers, regional sales managers, and technical experts to secure funds to develop new technology. Work with internal and external machine shops to fabricate prototypes. Use combustion theory, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics and turbulent jet theory extensively in my job. Routinely work with gas analyzers to measure the emissions produced by our technology.
Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field plus two (2) years of experience in the position offered or as a Development Associate III, or a related position. Must have two (2) years of experience with: Using combustion theory, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics and turbulent jet theory; Conducting heat and mass balance calculations and CFD simulation to understand the effect of burners on a furnace; Using process instruments including thermocouples, solenoid valves, pressure gauges and transducers, flow control valves, ignitors, torches, UV and IR flame detectors, data acquisition systems, hoses, tubing, pipes and fittings; Using measurement instruments including gas chromatographers, dissolved oxygen probes, chemiluminescent analyzers, infrared detectors, paramagnetic sensors, electrochemical sensors and hot zirconia sensors; Generating LabVIEW programs to interact with electrical instruments; Designing stack gas sampling systems and specifying performance testing methods and conducting data analysis; Generating P&IDs, standard operating procedures (SOP), control flow diagrams, and site safety plans; and Conducting process hazards analysis (PHA), pre startup safety reviews (PSSR), management of change (MOC), hazardous work permits, site safety reviews, lab safety inspections.
40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-5:00PM
