YOUR MISSION:
 
The Senior SRE/DevOps engineer delivers and supports a flexible architecture for high throughput Saas applications focusing on IoT (Internet of Things), BigData, and machine Learning.  Designs and builds out software infrastructure for automating the configuration, deployment and monitoring of highly scalable, secure and high performing cloud-based IoT systems. 
 
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
 
  • Ensures scalability, security, & performance becomes part of the application architecture and development process.
  • Works with various cloud providers or private data centers.
  • Proactively works toward serverless architecture (Amazon Web Services/Azure) where appropriate.
  • Brings new ideas, whether it's a new tool, or technology that will help us iterate and innovate.
  • Supports all facets of Site Reliability & DevOps Architecture, Monitoring, Tools & Processes, Production Incidents, Root Cause Analysis, Disaster Recovery Planning.
  • Automates software deployment processes by releasing incremental updates and developing automation tools.
  • Improves communication and collaboration within the engineering team to enable rapid product.
  • Increases customer responsiveness and monitor application performance by anticipating and correcting operational issues before their occurrence.
  • Creates more stable operating environments by continuously improving the infrastructure to be easily deployable and scalable.
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of agile methodology, development processes, and programming languages.
  • Ensures best practices are followed.
  • Interprets and complies with Company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Prepares reports, charts, graphs, and other statistical information.
  • Will initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
MUST HAVES:
 
  • Four-year College Degree in at least one STEM major (Science; Technology; Engineering; Math) and a minimum of five (5) years of experience; or a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience.
 
Required Experience:
 
  • Prior SRE/DevOps experience in a Linux based cloud environment.
  • Experience with configuration management in a cloud environment.
  • Experience with a shell scripting language such as Bash, Ruby, Perl, Python, Go, etc.
  • Experience writing code (but you don't have to be an application developer).
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms: AWS (preferred), Azure, Rackspace.
  • Experience with Virtualization and Containers.
  • Familiarity of Dickerson's Hierarchy of Reliability.
  • Solid understanding of continuous integration, deployment and operations concepts.
  • Experience with building and managing large-scale high throughput, distributed and event driven production applications with a deep focus on DevOps automation.
  • Git source control including administration, branching strategy, and how it fits into the CI/CD process.
  • Experience managing Linux (Centos, Ubuntu) systems.
  • Experience with Configuration management such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
  • Experience building/implementing monitoring for network, server and application status.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as graphite, nagios, Datadog, Runscope.
  • Experience with log aggregation systems using splunk, logstash, loggly, elasticsearch, sumo logic.
  • Experience with continuous integration, testing, and deployment using Git, jenkins.
  • Experience with relational, document, and NoSQL databases (Cassandra, Couchbase, Mongo).
  • Experience with Hadoop and Spark, or other big data platforms.
  • Experience in deployment monitoring tools (New Relic, Cloud Watch, Pingdom, PagerDuty, etc.) and be experienced in configuring these tools.
  • Troubleshoot production issues; escalate and communicate as required.
  • Open source contribution experience is a plus.
