**Job Description:** GENERAL SUMMARY Manages the activities of a product family and/or a particular business line via product specialists, first and/or second level managers which provide leadership in the development of open storage software business plans and strategy. Will provide industry insights, and drive product direction within the company and the industry. Creates "first, best content" which describes and communicates product vision and product direction for customers, analysts, and internal EMC audiences. Formulates tactics to support the growth associated with a product family and/or business line. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manages activities of a product family and/or a particular business line through product specialists, first and/or second level managers. Directs, develops and establishes operational policies within the product family or business line that they manage. Participates in strategy development. Is responsible for the effective operation of activities of major significance to the organization. Ensures that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained. Typically manages employees from multiple disciplines (both direct and indirect). Is responsible for the success of a product family or a particular business line. Decisions affect virtually all areas of the company. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would have a long-term effect on the organization's success. Is responsible for second level of management or higher with human resources responsibilities. Able to identify business development opportunities in the form of alliances, partnerships, acquisitions, which enable growth of the business, line beyond organic limits. Responsible for defining and realizing market share, profitability, and other key metrics as goals for a product portfolio. May report to the vice president of Product Management.
