As the Director, Business Management for Microsoft Digital, you will work closely with the GM of Digital in driving the rhythm of the business - thinking holistically and strategically about key operational rhythms, business processes, procedures and communication, supporting Microsoft Digital as a business and enabling effective business planning and execution. This is an ideal role for someone passionate about customer obsession, continuous improvement and innovation who would like to gain a broad and deep understanding of the operations of a complex, and rapidly growing organization.

As the Business Management Director, you will have the opportunity to think strategically at a global level and develop key processes, procedures and communications that facilitate business planning and execution for the Microsoft Digital team. This position requires extensive cross-group coordination at all levels, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build rhythm of the business, compelling presentations and comprehensive business review materials that span delivery, operations and business teams. The Director, Business Management will provide the Microsoft Digital leadership team with oversight of operational issues, participate in overall strategy discussions and facilitate business execution.

In this role, you will use your expertise to identify issues that impede business group success and work proactively to address them, improving the effectiveness of the GM, the leadership team, and the overall organization with every iteration of every process and rhythm of business.

Business Operations & Rhythms

In this role, you are responsible for key operational rhythms and processes, creating a holistic view of the operational mechanics of the organization. This includes responsibility for:
•Building operational rhythms and calendars which anticipate the delivery needs of the organization and enable the leadership team to operate effectively and efficiently
•Managing cadence, agenda and logistics for customer events, leadership meetings and off site meetings
•Proactively identifying issues that impede business group success and providing solutions/recommendations
•Helping the GM to filter and balance priorities to align his time and focus with key priorities of the GM and of the business including acting as single point of contact for EBC and customer visit request acceptance
•Helping with prioritization and setting cadence of appearances for the GM at team events (e.g. all hands, leadership team meetings)
•Translating dialogs into actions and/or projects that achieve the GM’s expected outcomes

This role is also expected to take point leadership on irregular and unanticipated operational topics that are operational in nature, including driving strategic initiatives.

This role also includes responsibilities for the effective business and financial operations of the organization including:
•Supporting annual financial planning processes with the leadership team, ensuring coordination and integration across groups and proactive development of growth scenarios and business cases
•Tracking progress and actions against long range financial plans
•Proactive management of organizational budgets and spending
•Purchasing and financial approvals
•COGS, Opex, and NTE headcount management
•Acting as the interface to Finance
•Facilitate successful implementation of organizational plans

Leadership

The role is a direct report to the GM of Microsoft Digital organization and is responsible for providing direct support to the GM. As a member of the Microsoft Digital leadership team, the individual is expected to be a full contributor to all leadership team discussions and topics, participating in most relevant meetings and offering synthesized business perspectives relevant to influencing key strategic decisions.

While this is primarily an individual contributor position, the role is responsible for managing a small support staff of indirect/dotted line responsibilities:
Dotted line management of Administrative Assistant for the GM, particularly with regard to time management and calendar prioritization for the GM and program management of events

•Strong communication skills to effectively drive recommendations and land priorities across senior executives, and across organizational boundaries.
•Ability to resolve ambiguity or conflict situations to bring global teams and business groups into alignment
•Strong analytical skills, combined with a strategic orientation, as well as an aptitude for solving complex business problems are also critical for success in this role.
•Systems thinker able to manage a high degree of complexity and to distill information into simple messages, able to think both strategically at a global level as well as to effectively develop key processes

•Exceptional cross-organization coordination skills including ability to build comprehensive and compelling presentation and communication materials that span functions and groups

•Strong communication skills including ability to distill information into concise communication materials, ability to tailor language and detail the audience, and use of multiple communication mediums to distribute information
•Ability to balance varying responsibilities that span rhythm of business, communications, executive management, and culture
•Passion to foster a culture of customer obsession, innovation and high performance through initiatives, training & education, morale events, and communication
