Job Summary Plan, direct, monitor and coordinate all activities of an assigned contract group within the Contracts/Legal Affairs department. Provides direction for the negotiation and interpretation of sales and maintenance contracts, focusing on risk mitigation and compliance with company policy and legal regulations. Negotiate terms and prepare contracts for key accounts. Review and prepare proposal responses in support of sales pursuits. Advise management on contractual rights and obligations and risks. Provide solutions in contracts and problem resolution recommendations which support corporate revenue recognition requirements.
Major Responsibilities Contracts Group Direction
•Lead the group in the review and preparation of large, complex contracts within required timeframes and prepare negotiation plans to ensure success
•Ensure risk analysis of proposal input and contract terms is conducted, and present to executive management.
•Oversee proposal preparation and ensure offer meets requirements and follows corporate policy.
•Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and best practices, and help drive implementation.
•Partner in the development and measurement of metrics to increase efficiency and performance for the Contracts Group.
•Support cross functional teams in maximizing change order opportunities and follow-on business opportunities.
•Work closely with peers to ensure quality solutions within the required timeframes.
•Keep abreast of emerging best practices and technologies and evaluate and recommended as needed.
•Ensure staff is following corporate policy and procedures.
•Review and edit business proposals and submit contract content as required.
•Participate in P&L reviews with executive management, elevating areas of contractual risk and presenting recommendations to mitigate risk.
•Draft, negotiate and conclude sales contracts.
•Analyze complex proposals that may require integrating bids from subcontractors and other potential vendors.
•Support and advise management on contractual rights and obligations and serve as a resource for interpretation of terms and conditions.
•Review and approve alternative language of non-standard, complex contract terms.
•Responsible for elevation of non-standard terms and contractual issues to the next level for review and approval.
•Interface with outside counsel as required.
•Hire, train, supervise and appraise employees.
•Coach and mentor employees to promote individual growth and provide direction to employees in support of corporate vision, values, and goals.
•Monitor group costs in accordance to established budget.
•Report on a scheduled basis the status of all contracts and goals, to department and company executives.
•Provide, and ensure that the team provides, exceptional customer service.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements •Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
•Familiar with commercial acquisition and audit practices, including revenue recognition.
•Advanced-level knowledge of commercial terms with specific experience in the aerospace industry.
•Proven success in complex, international contracts negotiation and terms which have been structured to meet company objectives.
•Superior computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
•Ability to interact with all levels of personnel in a professional manner and maintain highest level of professionalism under pressure.
•Must possess strong problem-solving skills for problem identification and solution recommendation and their effects on risk and obligations.
•Proven success at managing and leading direct reports.
•Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
•Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.
•Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.
•Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and or unit operation and may jeopardize overall business activities.
Education/Experience Requirements •4-year degree in law, business or related field is strongly preferred or equivalent work experience.
•12+ year's hands-on contract negotiation and administration.
•5+ year's management of employees.
Other Requirements •Travel up to 15% both domestic and internationally.
