The Director of Data Governance Audit will have a passion for data, risk management, and governance and will work with business and IT audit leadership across the globe to drive and advocate for improved data governance maturity.  This will be done through conducting various data governance standalone and integrated audits.  The Data Governance Director role is a cross functional leadership role while operating in a SME (subject matter expert) capacity.  The position currently has three direct reports and involves heavily leveraging a matrix team.  The role reports to the Head of Data & Analytics and Shared Services, who reports to the MetLife Chief Auditor.


  • Lead a team to perform assessments/audits of data governance frameworks, data quality and related data audits in accordance with corporate methodologies and professional standards, including drafting of audit reports, presenting issues to the business and discussing practical solutions.
  • Articulate objective, evidence based conclusions on the operating effective of data governance controls, and make practical recommendations for the remediation of the issues identified.
  • Produce quality work papers evidenced by minimal review notes, and excellent quality assurance results.
  • Manage the overall portfolio of global work related to data governance assessments plus activities designed to enable auditors to conduct data governance audits (e.g. training program)



  • 10-15 years of experience with auditing technology and/or data in large audit function or a Big 4 accounting firm.
  • Undergraduate degree required in Computer Science, Accounting, or Management Information Systems along with the desired experience.
  • Working knowledge of the data management disciplines and financial services business processes.
  • A strong team player with good leadership skills in a matrix organization.
  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills.



  • Experience in implementing data governance frameworks within operations or technology.
  • Excellent analytical ability to understand business issues associated with data management and governance, business processes in terms of data, and related standards, risks and controls, identifying root causes and recommending solutions.
  • CIA, CISA or CPA certifications.
